apart from maybe barcelona (arguably), we have to be the most attractive club in europe for players.
our history is one thing, but seeing the intent in this transfer window is another altogether. willingness to spend money, and the players we're bringing in, how can you look at united and not want to join to play with schweinsteiger and depay, with the talent of ADM and herrera already here. and people in the game see rooney as a big draw too.

Still feels darn surreal. The magnitude of the signings hasn't sunk it yet by any stretch. Will hit me when we line-up against Spurs.

Watched Basti's interview. Liked the way he said things. When asked about LVG, on how big a role he played on this transfer, Basti answered that it was not about LVG but it's because of the club, Manchester United.

Premier League - Manchester United finally get the midfield they deserveTom Adams says the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin have finally solved a problem that has plagued Manchester United for years. By Tom Adams 3 hours ago Eurosport
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Louis van Gaal together at Bayern MunichIt is one of the quirks of Anderson’s rather strange career in football that the Brazilian will forever boast the unlikely honour of being the last midfielder Sir Alex Ferguson ever signed. It is one of the enduring mysteries of Ferguson’s rather more accomplished career that this transfer was completed a full six years before his eventual retirement in 2013.
For over half a decade, Ferguson let his midfield corps decay, despite the exhortations urging him to strengthen the centre of his team growing louder by the season. Worse, he managed to lose Paul Pogba too, leaving United’s midfield in a state of some disrepair by the time he finally left Carrington. Deprived of fresh talent and denied the next great European star by Pogba’s departure to Juventus, it never really recovered. Until Monday.
The confirmation of the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin gives United a complement of midfielders worthy of the club’s status. Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick make up a formidable five, with Daley Blind and Juan Mata the more versatile options also able to pitch in. Angel Di Maria, too, if his association with the club does persist beyond this summer. If nothing else, today’s double deal should at least prevent Wayne Rooney from ever again trying to make the case that the odd assist makes you an acceptable midfielder. With only James Wilson as back-up, he has enough work to get through in attack as United depart for the USA on their pre-season tour.
Rooney’s utilisation in midfield was a recurring symptom of United’s midfield malaise. Ferguson and David Moyes both resorted to it and he was asked to perform the role for eight games in a row between December and January last season under Louis van Gaal, with United only winning half of those matches.
The sight of Rooney ambling on to the pitch and taking up a deep role never really gave the impression that United were a fully-functioning team or entirely serious. It was the sign of a club having to make do, as they moved from a period of sustained success through more choppy waters. But no longer. The signings of Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger are not enough to make United strong title contenders in themselves – the lack of any real competition to Rooney in attack is now the glaring hole in the squad, and one that is presumably being addressed as a matter of urgency by the suddenly prolific Ed Woodward.
But two summers of frantic recruitment - £150m spent 12 months ago; £83m so far this time around – have given United a formidable squad to pick from.
Schweinsteiger, surely, is arriving as a first choice. Bayern could no longer assure him of a place in a team managed by Pep Guardiola, a man whose obsession with midfielders stands in stark contrast to Ferguson’s final years in the game, but as Germany captain he is not in the market for a substitute’s role.
There are concerns over the fitness of a player who has been performing consistently at the top level for well over a decade, but United’s increased squad depth should allow the club to protect him and, handily, Schneiderlin is the most assiduous of midfielders. The Frenchman could do the running, tackling and intercepting of two men, if it were asked of him. Assuming both start, it is hard to imagine that Van Gaal will not revert to his favoured 4-3-3 formation, particularly as he has such a shortage of centre-forwards at present.
Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin coupled with either Herrera or Carrick. It makes United’s midfield one of the best in the country again, instead of the afterthought it had become for far too long.

Schweinsteiger saying it's been a dream of his to play for Manchester United is borderline mystical.
I know this sounds childish, but this guy could have a talismatic effect on the club - Toure, Cantona-esque.
His English too, leadership-wise, it's too good to be true.

Really loved this, the man is coming to PROVE something to himself, to Germany in general !! Just brings a tear to the eye The magnitude of this whole window is going to be something that will be a big star in the history of United. Every signing LvG & Ed have brought here, not just great players, but players who WANT to play for United and most importantly, they are all noted as great teammates by every club they have played for. These are players chasing the Rainbow, and looks like United is the Pot of Gold they seek at the end of it Taken by Basti's older brother \0/
