I like the kid, but does anyone actually think he has a future beyond the Rumbelows cup and filling in for us? You mean do we think he's genuinely good enough or do we think he'll get enough chances? I think he's definitely good enough. Watching him live, you can see the amount of runs he makes. The difference he made against Sheffield (I know) was mental, no one else was making those runs. Seems intelligent enough and we've seen he can spot and find some brilliant forward balls and can strike the ball as well. I really like the kid but I'm always wary of tipping young lads until they show it consistently for a couple of years at least

Both I suppose, I don't think we've seen enough from him to suggest he will ever be a long term starter for us, but on the same hand we've not seen that much of him because of injury.

I like the kid, but does anyone actually think he has a future beyond the Rumbelows cup and filling in for us? Think he'll have a Richardson, Thornley, Eagles type career. Haven't really seen anything from him that says he'll progress on here, but should have a long career playing at the top of the Championship, lower half of Premier League. Perfectly respectable career, just not good enough for us. Hopefully I'm wrong.

LINGARD REVEALS RIO FERDINAND ADVICE Jesse Lingard has revealed he still keeps in touch with former Manchester United colleague Rio Ferdinand and asks the ex-England defender for advice on his game.
Ferdinand, who retired last year, praised the Reds midfielder for his excellent performance in the Manchester derby victory last time out in the Barclays Premier League and the comments did not go unnoticed by the 23-year-old. In an exclusive interview with Sunday's United Review, the official matchday programme, Lingard speaks at length about his role in the side and his progress this season. Ferdinand tweeted to say: "Lingard... [is a] proper footballer. Does what most kids these days don't appreciate - intelligent movement off the ball." When asked if he had seen the comment, Lingard replied: "I did. I think, especially if you’re playing in the no.10 role, you’re always going to need that intelligence and that vision to see things around you to find that killer pass. But Rio saying that gives you another massive confidence boost. I still speak to Rio now and then. "He’s always looked out for me and I still ask for advice and stuff like that. I’ll see if he watches the games. "Things like that are always going to spur you on and make you hungry for more," he added. "I’ve just got to keep my feet on the ground and work hard. It’s only my first season, I’ve not really made it yet. I’ve got to keep working hard on the pitch. "I cannot let my foot off the gas. I’ve got to keep going now until the end of the season and play as many games as I can. We must stay in the FA Cup and get into that top four." Read the interview in full in Sunday's special edition of United Review, which marks the naming of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand with a commemorative 16-page pull-out. www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2016/Apr/jesse-lingard-united-review-interview-reveals-in-touch-with-rio-ferdinand.aspx

I wish he would use that 'vision' needed to play the number 10 role now and again when he play's on the wing, rather than stopping and passing it backwards at almost every opportunity

Someone wrote into the F365 mailbox with this...
Why is he a guaranteed starter in every game despite doing basically nothing at all but run around aimlessly? Yet every time Memphis or Januzaj has a bad game they get shunned for the foreseeable future. I’d even rather have Valencia playing on the right, and if you really have to play Mata on the right at least let Herrera play as a number 10 instead of Lingard.
I wanted him to be good. It would have been nice to call him ‘LinGod’ or ‘Lionel Jesse’ (Stolen from twitter) but he really contributes nothing to the team. Also, he’s 23, he was given his chance this season and he couldn’t make the most of it. Sell him now before he has one good game and gets awarded with a new five-year contract worth 120 000 pounds a week.
Working hard doesn’t mean much when you can’t cross, beat a player, tackle or shoot.
Pretty much spot on for me

Think Lingard will be a late bloomer, my gut feeling tells me he'll be here for a while and I'd be pleased.
He was terribly unlucky with injuries and made a legitimate case for a spot in the first team. Did his time on loan too.
Came through the ranks and loves the club, crucially has an eye for goal too.

Don't see it myself, and this 'eye for goal' he has is far far overrated. 5 goals and 3 assists in 31 appearances. The goal against Chelsea was a fluke too as he slipped just before hitting it.

Opinions mate. I like Lingard and the fact he's here, he's had a full season with the first XI, he's come through the ranks and he hasn't cost us a fee. That's not a horrendous return for a first season coming from (arguably) a position of the youth side/reserves.

I think it's somewhere in between for Lingard. He's a Gillespie, not a Beckham. Decent to good player, not a world beater, not a starter every week.
Happy for him to stay as a rotation, wouldn't be distraught to see him sold where he'll play every week. Depends on his replacement though.

Won't find a squad player who would be happy at it. Lingard looks like someone who knows his role and would be happy to play his part when called upon by his coach . United needs this kind of player. Rather than spend money on squad players, we would do well to use our reserve members for this role.

Also, in the age of mercenary players, you really need to have at least a few who really cherish playing for the club they grew up at.
