The word "Smalling" isn't appearing anywhere near enough in here, considering Alt and myself fought an almost continual battle on his behalf since Christmas...... I don't usually hop on these trains but I've been championing Mike since Crimbo, going to make me look quite stupid if he slips back again. But anyway, brilliant thread. I hope we get to put Klopp in here in a couple of years time after our meltdown

if this man came to play for us and you'd not seen him play, would you write him off? It isn't really a fair question as we have all seen him playing for us over the last ten or so years.

Brendan - I believed the hype during the Suarez peak, I even mentioned in here that he should have been our man.
Thank Zeus I'm not in any position of power at United

I'm going to mention Wilf Zaha . Honestly thought we were on to a good prospect there. I still think he'll go on to prove a good player. Powell is another good shout. He really should have made a big impact in the game. Huge natural talent.

I'm as guilty as others on a lot of the aforementioned, but my individual picks would be Liam Miller (I really thought he was going to prove to be the ducks-nuts) and Andy (Andrew) Cole, who I thought was an over-hyped, over-priced Newcastle standard goal poacher.
"D'oh!"

I named my Cat, Rooney, about 7 years ago. Yeah, I have an eight year old Labrador called Rooney. Now there's two Rooney's who have to regularly be taken on to a large field so that they can bark randomly and shit all over the place.

Thought that Brendon was being overly criticized Was initially unhappy with Fellaini's acquisition. I know many wont take that as a mistake, but, ignoring the price tag, now I am pretty Ok with him in the squad.

i really don't understand why anyone would write off a player that they've never seen (regardless of the fee) ?? being wrong about a player you saw reaching the top is different. some of the initial predictions about martial (not here, from pundits and so-called experts) were astonishing. just looking at him, the kid has all the physical attributes you could ask for, and at 19 he's pretty much a blank canvas. seeing his full debut for france v denmark he was absolutely brilliant. and i've never seen anybody breeze by seamus coleman so easily, repeatedly. were i LVG, id rotate him/memphis in the LW position, keep rooney (if we must) up front and keep ander @ #10. the final third was better by leaps and bounds v everton. Never wrote off the player himself. Didn't understand why the Pedro deal failed and then we paid huge for a teenager. It was pretty much confirmed by a French paper that we went in last second and he was not an original priority.

I thought Darren Fletcher would never be of United quality.
Backed Falcao to come good for us.
Thought Shevchenko going to Chelsea would lead to them winning the PL 3/4 times in a row.
Thought we should have sold Smalling.
Thought Evans was a future United captain.
Didn't want us to buy RVP.
Was really annoyed Arsenal signed Nasri, thought he was gonna be a top top player
Thought Cleverley would be a very good creative outlet for us.
Thought City would turn their 11/12 title win into a strech of dominance.
Thought Chelsea would walk the PL this year.
Thought Anderson would be a top player for us.
Thought Real were stupid to sell Ozil & buy Bale (won them the CL though).
Had no doubt Rafael would be a world class right back for us for a decade.
Thought Zaha would be quality (and form a great partnership with Rafa). Thought Powell was a great purchase too.
Was convinced Kagawa would be key (maybe I get a pass though as he wasn't shipped out for being sh*te).
Thought SAF would continue until at least 2017 and then hand straight to Giggs.
The biggest one of all? I put £20 on Rooney to be top scorer in the PL at the start of the season. I still had faith in pre-season, but was very quickly turned; Swansea & costing us that goal was the final nail in the coffin.

I remember being more than a little excited by Poborsky back in the day.
Darren Fletcher was far too weak to be a midfielder according to my expert judgement.
Somebody else mentioned it, but was convinced Alan Smith would make an excellent defensive mid.

Zaha was never given a chance here, neither was Kagawa. I think leeway should be given for Powell too, as it isn't a lack of ability that is hampering him.
