RIP. For all the advancement in medicine, pity no cure has been found for cancer yet. That ought to be the ultimate triumph for science and humanity. The population boom would be incredible.

FFS. Just seen the news on MSN when I got back from some shopping. He shot to fame as Hans Gruber in Die Hard with Bruce Willis, RIP Alan. Damn good shout Caaj. one of the core elements of a timeless action flick is a strong villain. it can be said that He was a major reason why the Die Hard series took off and was so loved. not to mention his apt straddling of the Evil/Good line in the Harry Potter movies, even to the last movie you couldn't tell which way he was going to turn. RIP Alan. Edit: Just pointed out to me that he and Bowie were the same age... Yerp, Die Hard rolled on after that thank's to Alan. My son bought me a 5 pack dvd's of the first 5 Die Hard films because he knew I loved watching the first one (which I still do) and seen them all. Gruber's name lived on after that and in Die Hard with Vengeance the FBI found out that the villain named Simon was more than likely Peter Krieg a former Colonel in the East Germans People's Army and on Kraigs birth certificate was the name Simon Peter Gruber, the brother of Hans Gruber. Then when Simon mentioned who he was McClane's (Willis) mind suddenly flashed back seeing Gruber falling out of the building. Jeremy Irons played Hans Gruber's brother brilliantly. Alan made Die Hard worth watching and as I said, he shot to fame after that and even if I noticed Alan Rickman's name mentioned in any film then it was a must watch for me. And as Stew said "His sheriff of Nottingham is a thing of scene-stealing beauty. Costner cut out roughly 50% of his scenes apparently as the audience fell totally in love with him." Costner will never be anywhere near close too Rickman in the acting department.
