52nd game? Must include the reserves? An awful lot of football for an 18 year old. Would explain the extensive scouting. Great way to keep an eye on his demeanour and attitude and such over a long period and see how he is handling it all. His tailing off is understandable. He's been playing CM at 18 for a team chasing a league and in the knock outs of the Champion's League. People might want to be drama queens about it but it might not be the worst thing if he missed the Euros.

Sometimes they need to be taken out of the limelight for a while. Whilst it would be great to watch him at the Euros, as you said, it wouldn't be the worst thing if he missed them. For his long term development & career.

32 games would've been a lot for a 18 year old!

For his long term development & career. Exactly. He'll probably play in 3 or 4 major tournaments over the course of his career. No need to rush him now. And Portugal are pretty strong in that area so it's not as if he has to go.

Contingent on a change in manager? I should bloody hope so. God knows what Van Gaal would do to this kids confidence.

Manchester United are close to finalising a deal that will bring Portuguese starlet Renato Sanches from Benfica to the Premier League this summer.
Appearing on BT Sport’s European Football Show last night, journalist Andy Brassell confirmed that club President Luís Filipe Vieira was in Manchester last week to confirm a schedule for the deal, which could reportedly be worth as much as €80m. Brassell suggested that half will be up front with the other €40m in add-ons and bonuses in a deal similar to the one United inked with AS Monaco for the purchase of Anthony Martial last summer.
The figures quoted are mouthwatering for an 18-year old, albeit one who has made over 50 appearances this season and the deal is certainly based around Sanches’ potential as opposed to his current level. Still, with United hoping to seal the deal before Euro 2016 kicks off in France, the Portuguese will likely have plenty of time to begin adjusting to his new surroundings over the summer.

At least we have the smarts to sort it before the Euros. We should aim to have all our transfer business done before it kicks off in France.

Ed still has the ability to fuck this up Every transfer this summer, completed or not, should be classed as a fuck up if VG remains in charge. None of them will play as long as Rooney, Carrick, Valencia, Tree and the like are fit.

Isn't signing this kid pretty much conformation that LVG is gone? Coz the manager will have aneurysms seeing Sanches try to drive forward with the ball, which happens to be pretty much every time? Forward passes and tempo are the anti-thesis of filosopheeeeeeeeeeeee.
