Get thee to the Rooney thread... It's a report on the match!

Here's an extract from something called the Republik of Mancunia...never heard of it...
Fellaini Continues His Polarising Ways
Nobody can quite figure out Marouane Fellaini. The towering Belgian started well, protecting the defence ably, winning the ball and disposing of it tidily. In fact, he did that again yesterday. The question now worth asking is that enough to justify his place? Does he offer enough in the role to be a first XI player?
His blame in all three goals is certainly clear. He was out of position both times in open play, not covering the top of the box and not even close to being so when Capoue and Zuniga hammered the Hornets ahead twice. He then fouled Zuniga and brought him to the ground, and Troy Deeney hammered home the third goal and final nail in the coffin.
Morgan Schneiderlin is not perfect, but he seems to be a much better partner on paper for Paul Pogba and perhaps Ander Herrera in midfield. A three man midfield in this set up needs to be dynamic and adaptable – Fellaini is not that. So where to from here?
Wayne Rooney Remains Symptomatic of the Club’s Issues
He might be the Captain of Club and Country but he’s also the awkward elephant in the room. Wayne Rooney was an utter disaster yesterday, and became the subject of mockery when a highlight reel of all his mistakes went viral on social media after the game.
Certainly the worst player on the ground, the Englishman couldn’t complete basic passes, couldn’t help the team in attacks or in the counter attack and spent more time back chatting linesman than genuinely contributing. His decline is not only startling, but also confusingly obvious to the public. So why can his managers not see it?
Yes, the player is a commercial juggernaut but he has also been supplanted in that aspect by his new teammates. He’s not the team’s best striker, nor the team’s best number ten and he is not a midfielder. His best days have passed him by, and it appears more and more obvious that his presence not only holds back the club, it hurts them too.
Rooney joins Fellaini as a likely symptom and ongoing problem for a club. When will their manager realise this and make the decisions necessary? Guardiola moved on Hart knowing the club needed better, it’s coming high time Mourinho did the same.

More from Luckhurst in the M.E.N.
Again, Mourinho persisted with Rooney. Rooney is, like Bear Grylls, a skillful survivor without ever convincing. It was inevitable after Feyenoord, whom Rooney did not play against, he would start at Watford yet Mourinho could have strengthened his position had he overlooked the United captain. Instead, Mourinho appeared as weak and feeble as his players by not just indulging the biggest problem, but playing him in midfield.
Mourinho was adamant Rooney's days in United's midfield were over yet there he was, crowbarred into the three, over-hitting passes, ceding possession and bundling the ball out of play. Just like at Bournemouth on the opening weekend.
United should have sold Rooney in 2013 One disgruntled United supporter made a package of Rooney's lowlights and ended it with the message 'Take your weave and leave. YSB.' Rooney was so wretched even BT Sport pundits Robbie Savage and Glenn Hoddle began questioning his role in the side. It is just as well for Paul Scholes he does not co-commentate.

Sense! I've been saying this since the beginning. I don't believe the hype around the commercial BS or that he can't be dropped. The same excuse is given year in year out Enough said let's see what happens. We have 4 tough league games ahead of us and by the end of October we will have played Leicester, Dippers and Rents away. If we are languishing mid tabel and Rooney is still playing by then we are truly fucked

I think Blind should have a place in the starting 11. Okay he didn't have a great game against City but he was hardly on his own either. Captain Stinky gets away with 3 out of 10 performances week on week without consequences. I can see why JM went with Smalling for his height. When you have the likes of Deeney, you have to compete for the ball the air.

One thing Mou must sort out is basic movement of the forward players.
Don't know if it's been mentioned because I can't be bothered to go through the previous 40 pages, but there was a moment in the 2nd half when Bailly played a shit pass out right to Valencia and instead spooned it out for a throw in.
Whilst it was a bad pass, he dallied on the ball for a few seconds because all the players in front of him were stood still, back to the Watford goal, looking at him. What is a player supposed to do? If everyone is static his options are limited to pretty much A - Pass to someone and put him in trouble; 2- Turn around and pass back to De Gea to punt it up field, or C - Run with the ball; great if it opens the opposition up, not so great if you lose it and we end up in the shit. Come on, dazjoe! There's some amazing shit in there! You missed some great jokes, too!
