Van Gerwen has a similar effect on people that Taylor used to. They arrive to play him in really good form but as soon as they step up to play him they just lose it. Definitely intimidated before they even start playing.
Smith has played alright in bursts but been nowhere near good enough to win it.

Smith played brilliantly in the whole tournament, except for when it mattered, in the final. To be fair I don't like the guy but MVG was on a different stage to any of them this year so was always gonna be a tough ask to beat him.
Just annoys me with the dost bumps everytime he gets a 180 or his sometimes over celebrating when he gets a double.

Suppose it's good for the sport, in the first 17 years of this tournament there were only 4 difference winners. In the 11 years since this would be 9 winners (If he wins)

Any major Saturday night brawl in a town centre always seems to have someone that’s the spitting image of him right in the middle of it. |
