The atmosphere inside Old Trafford is not what it once was. For 4 years we have been trying to proclaim our place as title contenders, when we finish atleast 15 points away from the title we as fans have a right to moan. Considering the money we pay to this club for our tickets, season tickets and membership cards why should we not be given a singing section in the stretford end. I've sat in the Stretford end and anytime someone tries a chant no one wants to join in. If you dont want to support your team by chanting and singing dont bother coming to the games. I get that families have small children and dont want them to be part of that, I understand but you have the Sir Alex and Bobby Charlton stand to sit in. The Stretford end is full boring supporters who simply dont want to chant and get the crowd going. For the money we pay this club it has to be more ruthless, we should have designated singing sections in the stretford end and various other parts of the stadium and if your not singing then get out because its not fair, watching a football match live should be where you chant, sing, boo and cheer not sit in silence. If you want to sit in silence and watch the game either go in the family stand or stay at home because the die hard fans who want to sing their heart out cant because no one else will.

I have never been as embarrassed to attend a United fixture, along with the shambolic performance and lazy attitudes of some individuals the atmosphere around Old Trafford was dull. The Stretford End was like a library during our 0-0 draw with Hull. This should not be happening with a club at our level and in a stand known for its hooliganism like behaviour such as chants and various other attitudes demonstrated throughout the game may this be towards the ref or opposition. Lower league games I have been on or seen have stadiums a quarter of the size and still can't manage to fill it but you can still sense a buzz in and out of the stadium just walking down to the ground allows you to see the die hard fans that w at to be heard and you get a real feal of excitement even as a neutral. Singing shows the passion you hold for the club and why you are not only so fond of the badge that sits on your shirt but you hold that crest close to your heart. We are Manchester United, we have the biggest stadium in England and fill a average of 75,500 people so therefore should not under any circumstance hear players on the pitch or a person from the other side of the stand shouting. It saddens me that when I join in with a chant I feel almost disrespected by the glares and stares of the majority in the stands. if something could be done to improve the overall atmosphere at OT then it should be a priority and further note the liveliness walking towards the ground is dismal but that is a whole new issue!

Two new people that both comment in the same thread and no 'new member post'? Apparently camallison has been here since late-2016.

Blatant flouting of forum rules aside, I have to agree with these two guys.
The atmosphere at OT has deteriorated and it isn't getting better, at all. I am all for a singing section. Too many times have I lamented the lack of noise at our stadium.

The foreign tourists, families having a day out and corporate tossers have destroyed the atmosphere in Old Trafford over the past 20 years. It's infuriating to see 75% of the ground sat there like silent fucking statues for the whole game other than when United get a shot on goal or a player comes near them so they can get some mobile phone snaps. Especially when the opposing team fans are ripping the piss out of United for having shit fans, being silent etc... How can you not sit there and be fucking embarrassed?
As a new fan to the stadium I'm sure it can be intimidating getting involved with chants and stuff straight away, especially if you're not totally confident of the words. So in that regard I understand some hesitancy. That's how it was for me when I last went... although the crowd was dead for that, during an unimportant game against Villa in the LvG period, one that United scraped 1-0 while boring everyone to death. It was a little worse for me because I was borrowing the girlfriend's brother's season ticket, so I was in the Stretford End feeling like a bit of an impostor.
Anyway, the Stretford End and the singing section do try to lift the atmosphere but it must be pretty hard when faced with 10 times your number of people showing utter indifference, more interested in their megastore tat, half-and-half scarfs and getting photos of Wayne Rooney, not to mention the often boring as fuck football on show (although that shouldn't really be an excuse). Of course those tourist fans have as much right to be there as anyone else but it can't mask the fact that it does ruin the atmosphere and that the noise in Old Trafford has become a bit of a joke to everyone else.
I guess that's the price you pay when you go down the route of extreme commercialisation like United have done. I'd much rather the roles were reversed and one section was reserved for tourists and people with piss-weak sensibilities and the rest the ground was reserved for the real support.

Its fucking embarrassing that we even need one. There's over 76k seats in that stadium (minus the away section) THAT should be the singing section.
Fuck the prawnies off and replace them with supporters that want to absorb the atmosphere instead of sitting there like in silence.
When people mock us over shit like this we deserve all we get. A reason I Dont go up as much as I'd like to either. Sitting near absolute bellends that spend the 90 minutes either moaning about what were doing or sat there as though they've got the TV on in the library.
Its bad when you have to chant and take the piss out your own supporters.
Basically the singing section can fuck off.

I'd much rather the roles were reversed and one section was reserved for tourists and people with piss-weak sensibilities and the rest the ground was reserved for the real support. That's something I never understood. You can clap, sing something or skip some words at first but then it repeats and you get it, then be louder. No one is paying attention or judging, people are too busy supporting the team. Just in general, not aimed at you. I've observed that away fans tend to make much more noise than home fans in general nowadays. That is not normal. How many foreign tourists there are in a venue of 75K people? Hell, even if you live in England it can be hard to get some tickets. Also, not restricted to United. On the top of my head to give you an example that happened this season – Arsenal fans outsung Bournemouth in the second half at that 3-3 draw. ARSENAL! How many foreign trippers were on the home side? When mid table teams face each other, it's hardly an inferno either. Maybe the question is "what happened to football supporter culture in England?" Getting the terraces back and not having stupid lunch time kick offs that makes some great supporters wake up at 3am would do wonders.

Non singing supporters are bad enough but even worse for me are the ones leaving early.whether their team is losing or clear winners and then they start leaving the stadium early. A big fuck you to this supporters.there are thousand and thousands who cant get tickets and would love to be there each and every game singing their hearts out and others who pay for the tickets and dont even wait for the final whistle

Fucking pisses me right off that. I stood up and started chanting 80 minute tickets. Didn't go down well but I made sure I voiced my opinion

Our away fans are the best in the league and some of the best you'll see anywhere but all that gets ruined by the shitshow home support we have.
Dont even think bringing back standing areas will improve it either. Too many people with selfie sticks and iPads, I Kean who the fuck brings an IPad to a game of football, fucking muppets.

I absolutely agree.i'm also not sure standing areas will change anything. I think the problem finds its roots more in our modern day society and technology and not necessarily in standing/seated areas.
Standing areas is something i support but i doubt the atmosphere will be changed by that. Most people going to games probably dont even know the chants as they are simply not interested.they want to be entertained from the team.and its like a movie you havent seen,if you dont like the movie you turn it off. I think fan culture in england aswell as many other european countries has changed from 20-30 years ago.standing areas alone wont solve the problem

I remember the late eighties, early nineties. Pay at the turnstile, all the lads together, singing our fucking hearts out. I used to get the bus from work in Rochdale into town then meet up with my mates, then the bus to OT. Strange, but I can't remember any of the journeys home! That's where the problem lies. We used to all go in together, sing together. Now every fucker is spread around the ground. It's not rocket science.

It's the kind of fairies who pull their phone out and record free kicks or penalties instead of actually bloody watching it who don't join in, if you're having a day out that's fair but at least try and join in.
And if you want to sit down then get your ticket elsewhere in the ground, not in the heart of the stand where everyone else are on their feet

Everyone's a customer, treated as a number to be counted through the gates and the hell with acknowledging it's a fucking football match.
