Seeing as though we seem to be on some sort of revisionist buzz, I wonder if people will remember that this is precisely the sort of fixture Fergie’s teams tended to struggle in? I doubt it. There were the odd blips but on the other hand we won more often than not and also smashed this type of side by four or five on occasion. I'd be happy with a 1-0 today if we provide some attacking entertainment to shake the cobwebs of the last two games. We very, very rarely came back from a tough away fixture in the champions league on a Wednesday, played an away game on Saturday and smashed people by 4 or 5.

Totally agree, you’d watch the game, and think, Christ, they’ve not turned up,and you knew we’d get beaten. Scrappy 0-1 will do thanks.

One day we’ll get to see Rashford, Martial, Lukaku and Mata in a front 4. One day...
Edit: Rash has always struggled at RW imo but I would have thought today makes sense to give him another go there.

I'm just glad there's no Mkhitaryan.

We very, very rarely came back from a tough away fixture in the champions league on a Wednesday, played an away game on Saturday and smashed people by 4 or 5. It would be rare since, in Fergie's last five seasons, there were only four away league games played on a Saturday after an away CL game on a Wednesday: - 10 Nov 2012 Aston Villa (a) W 3-2 26 Feb 2011 Wigan (a) W 4-0 2 Oct 2010 Sunderland (a) D 0-0 08 Nov 2008 Arsenal (a) L 2-1 There's the blip against Sunderland but no suggestion it was the norm. Here are all league games home and away on a Saturday after an away CL game on a Wednesday: - 10 Nov 2012 Aston Villa (a) W 3-2 10 Dec 2011 Wolves (h) W 4-1 09 Apr 2011 Fulham (h) W 2-0 26 Feb 2011 Wigan (a) W 4-0 2 Oct 2010 Sunderland (a) D 0-0 27 Nov 2010 Blackburn (h) W 7-1 08 Nov 2008 Arsenal (a) L 2-1 Sorry, but the Wednesday-Saturday argument doesn't really stand up - no excuses today. Edit: And I don't think we will need any excuse

Edit: And I don't think we will need any excuse So you found 4 of those away games after Wednesday in the Champions League. And we barely beat Villa, hammered Wigan, drew with Sunderland and lost to Arsenal. So as I said, we very rarely hammered teams in that situation. Thanks for proving my point.
