Martin O Neill probably keeps him on a tight leash. Which is the best way to have him on board. A great player but doesn't have the temperament to be a no 1. Imagine how prickly his pre match conferences would be? He's a bubbling pan on a stove waiting to splatter everywhere. Do you really think a leash would be enough to hold Roy Keane? Haven't you heard, O'Neill keeps him in a cage haha... www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/1303857/euro-2016-ireland-boss-martin-oneill-claims-he-locked-werewolf-of-manchester-roy-keane-in-a-cage/On a serious note, Keano does all of the Republic of Ireland pre-match press conferences. He's been quite well humoured and positive. Here's the last one just the other day: - World Cup play-off: 'This is what you're born to do', says Roy KeaneThis isn't the Keane of a decade ago, he's much more media savvy these days. To be fair, even in his Sunderland and Ipswich days he was protective of his players after a poor performance. He seems to have learnt from his mistake with the MUTV interview. I'd trust him entirely and wouldn't it beat the deer in the headlights messages sent out by Moyes or even some of the frequent negative vibes we currently get from Mourinho? Failing that, I'd be quite happy for Keane to exert his influence at United as a number two under an experienced coach like Ancelotti. It doesn't have to be as manager, I just think we're missing a trick by not having him at the club.

If everyone could just 'Mark as Read: Forever' this thread and move on, that'd be awesome.

Keane is a legend but I've been here for a few days and your obsession with him scares the hell out of me.

Apart from everything else, Keane has ZERO inter-personal skills, that why he’s been so woeful as a manager. As Karma said, he’d murder half the team, the other half would fuck off. This is wummery of the first degree. I know that's the impression of Keane but if you scroll down to the 'Man-Management' heading in the OP it appears that's not actually the case? Nope, not the impression at all. The reality.

If everyone could just 'Mark as Read: Forever' this thread and move on, that'd be awesome. Ok, please could the last one out put a tick in the box to say we're happy with everything since Fergie retired? I just think United are better than the never ending cycle of short term CV managers who roll up for the money like you see at clubs like Chelsea and City. If that was the trick to success we'd have won the league three seasons straight with Van Gaal and Jose. Instead we've slipped 4th, 5th, 6th. I wanted to find a candidate with a similar character and ethos to potentially emulate Fergie. Sorry for aiming high. Fuck it, let's hire Pochettino and thank our lucky stars to be a 'big six' club who win the league once or twice every 10 years. Nevermind that Pochettino actually finished lower in the league than Keane ever did and has one less managerial trophy to boot. I think a lot of fans are too easily taken in by the latest fad manager and overlook everything that once made Fergie and United a level above. Anyone can disagree but I don't think it's wrong to have a chat about.

Fair enough. The problem is I have you telling me Keane has zero interpersonal skills, whereas those who have worked with him say he does. How do I know who to believe?

Doesn't Keane pretty much hate United now? He takes every chance he can get to make a negative comment.

Doesn't Keane pretty much hate United now? He takes every chance he can get to make a negative comment. I think he's a season ticket holder and takes one of his kids. I think his negativity is aimed at Fergie. Both of them have a big chip on their shoulder with each other. As much chance as the Gallagher brothers of burying the hatchet.

Doesn't Keane pretty much hate United now? He takes every chance he can get to make a negative comment. Hardly, following our 4-0 thrashing of CSKA, Roy had this to say: - ‘Manchester United are back’ – Roy Keane tips Jose Mourinho’s men to win Premier League and challenge in Europe He's also been taking digs at Liverpool lately saying he wouldn't pay to watch them in his back garden haha. Karma is right. Keane still loves United: - "I loved everything about United. From the day I signed for them. I just think it suited my personality. I loved the team, I loved the way we played. I liked all the lads, I liked the training, I liked the way we travelled. I liked the pressure. I liked the United fans. I thought they were pretty switched on, even when we lost – they’d be going mad, but a nice mad.
"I liked the demands. The kit. The badge. The history. I liked living in Manchester. I got on well with the manager. There was trust there – a big word in football. I liked the staff. Everyone at the training ground. The groundsmen. The different coaches over the years. Brian Kidd. Jim Ryan. Steve McClaren. Walter Smith. Carlos Queiroz. Micky Phelan. And winning – I enjoyed the winning."~Roy Keane, autobiography 2014 And in a separate interview: - “Man United mean a lot to me, despite my disagreement with the manager.
“I loved everything about United — the badge, the history, the pressures, the supporters, Old Trafford.
“Everything about it I loved.
“Going back doesn’t keep me awake at night. But you never know what’s around the corner.”~Roy Keane, 2014 What Keane wasn't happy about is the way Fergie booted him out of the club in 2005 and even less that United sent him legal threats in 2008 for talking about his departure. Their public feud began in 2011 when Keane criticised United after crashing out at the CL group stage against Basel and Fergie called him a "television critic". There was a bit of tit for tat which culminated in Fergie's 2013 autobiography where he slated Keane and other players leading to Roy's response, "that man doesn't know the meaning of the word loyalty". On the bright side, their relations have thawed since then with both having positive comments for one another: - "I think it is terrific about Roy. He had some bad experiences as a manager but he is young. He went straight from playing with us, to Celtic, to manager. It's hard that. Now he has got the experience of Martin O'Neill which he can lean on and learn by. And if he does come back into club football, he has got that advantage now. That is better preparation for him."~Alex Ferguson (on Keane's appoint with Ireland, 2013) “Twelve and a half years, to work under one manager. I don’t want people to think I’m bitter and twisted towards Alex Ferguson, but I’m obviously going to say I’m disappointed with his comments, what he said about me,”
“I’m not for one minute playing down what he achieved. Absolutely amazing.
“I played under good managers, bad managers. The top managers get a feel for the group, they know what you need. Whatever Alex Ferguson’s strengths and weaknesses, that was by far his biggest strength.
“Me and Alex Ferguson, we had the same type of traits, of what Manchester United was about. I think that probably created the problems towards to the end. We almost knew we were coming to the end.”
“I thought I knew what the group might need, that we didn’t need a big team talk, it was Tottenham at home. I thought please don’t go on about Tottenham, we all know what Tottenham is about, they are nice and tidy but we’ll fecking do them. He came in and said: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’, and that was it. Brilliant.”
“It could have been a European semi-final, it could have been Leeds away, it could have been a home League Cup tie – Alex Ferguson always had a feel of the group.”~Roy Keane, October 2014 “I fell out with Ferguson towards the end but I had 12 and a half great years working with him and I wouldn’t swap it for anything.
“It was brilliant.”~Roy Keane, May 2015 I'd love to see them shake hands and let bygones be bygones. If Fergie can make up with Strachan and Keane can bury the hatchet with McCarthy, I don't see why they couldn't get along with each other at least on a professional level.

Seriously, if someone else doesn't pick this fucking shit apart then i will.
This goes above being nice to a noob or hounding them off the board, this shit is fucking bat shit mental. And the worst part of it is that he actually believes that he has presented a viable case.
Fucking hell.
Bit like being tried for murder and your defence is wheeling out a load of people to say you are a nice guy.

Great - address the case I've set out in the OP and tell me how Keane is not a character match to Ferguson or why having that type of influence back at the club wouldn't benefit United in future. And I'm not a noob, I've supported United passionately for 30 years which I feel is enough for me to give an opinion.

Oh, don't worry, I will address the fundamental shit in your entire post in the morning. Who the fuck told you a load of quotes was a good way to present a positive argument? I can dig out a load of positive quotes on Hitler, Saddam & Trump if that's the case. And, much like an opinion, everyone has an arsehole too, but it doesn't mean we have to put up with you talking out of it. Again, do us all a favour and fuck off you clueless, boring twat.
