VAR

A lot of controversy with Video Assistant Ref but its not the concept its the implementation as usual, I would rather have the game stopped for a very short period and get the decision right.
At the moment the problem is the amount of time its taking to come to a conclusion, our refs are shite and having a video to check a decision seems to be another thing they can't do efficiently.

What I find ironic is that it Mariner took 2 minutes to reach a decision before telling the clueless Pawson what it was, yet in his next premier league game he'll make split second decisions on similar incidents and book whoever feels hard done by. That bunch of twats actually take a good guess more often than not.

I was at an A League game and I didn't even know we had VAR and we were waiting for a red card. It took about 5 minutes and we couldn't work out what the hell was going on. The big screen in the stadium was showing replays of a kick in the head. The ref didn't seem like he was allowed to look at it. Eventually someone must have said something to him in his ear piece and he gave a red card.
Every league is doing it differently and they are all wrong.

For those who believe that VAR will be the harbinger of justice, check out the penalty decision for Napoli’s second goal. This was reviewed and upheld by VAR, yet we’d all be furious if a decision like this was given against us. These decisions are all subjective and still open to the interpretation of the referee.

VAR is a wonderful tool, as long as it’s used correctly, I will support it until we are directly involved in an adverse decision, and then it will be fucking shite.

what worries me about VAR, is the kind of psychological effect on a ref and the linesmen. up until now, refs and his linesmen had to react and decide quickly for a situation. there was no chance of it being taken back etc.
now with VAR, every referee and every linesman can say he didnt see it properly or its unclear to them. so they decide to use VAR and it obviously takes time and stops the game again, destroying its flow time and again. a kind of lenient feeling that can spread across the refs and because of that slowing the game down even more.
i wanted VAR and still want it to work. but seeing how it effects the game now, it just cant be done at the moment. they need to work more on it, optimize it and find a good solution.

They should also being it in for penalty claims as well. The McTominay incident being a prime example seeing as the ref couldnt so his job properly. Other than that and the things listed in the tweet everything else should be left to the supposedly professional officials.

The laws of the game leave a hell of a lot to interpretation & trends of the game. I don't see how VAR can be properly implemented without being way over used. Every touch in the box would have to be rewatched. Every corner would have to be scrutinised. Just stick to absolute decisions.

Fucks sake. "Boavista concedes an allegedly offside goal, VAR cannot disallow it due to a Boavista fan waving his flag and inadvertedly blocking the camera" streamable.com/phm4x

Issues like the ball crossing the line or not and offside situations (position of players) could be easily settled in milliseconds using sensors without the need for VAR.

How Salah's pen was given using VAR against WBA I will never know. nowhere near the ball and would no way make it before it went out.

The main problem with the VAR is that people put it as the ultimate end of football injustices which is not true. Football is a game of people, and people make mistakes. No technology will change that. The best you can achieve is less mistakes.
