Are we confused by the idiocy that Matic is compared to Rooney, or the suggestion you got even a good 20 minutes from Rooney by the end?

I do think Matic's standard has dropped off compared to how good he was at the start of the season, although he's still good for the most part, it's just that he was so bloody good at the start. Doesn't help that he barely gets a rest. Also think he's been hindered by the formation as well as Pogba to be honest. Agree. Matic is still playing well and has been one of our best performers this season (having arguably been the best in August and September). He's just absolutely dying for a rest and also suffering from Jose's refusal to play a midfield three.

The guy made a mistake picking Rooney for a comparison but Matic hasn’t been as good in recent weeks as he was at the start of the season. He’s not alone in this, his standards were ridiculously high but still, its an issue. As is obvious, he’s screaming out for a rest but the injuries have probably screwed us in that regard so he’ll probably have to soldier on. Maybe he could get a break in some form against Brighton in the cup.

Matic has been comfortably our best midfielder. He seems to have played every game though. Doesn't really have the build of an uber fit athlete.

Jose as with Pogba has done matic no favours. the guy hasn't had a rest even when we had players fit and he could have rested him.

The fact that Kante has gotten criticism this season says it all IMO - he's in a very similar position to Matic in that last season, they had each other to cover one another, this season though, both have a player (Bakayoko / Pogba) next to them who contributes fuck all defensively. That said, we definitely need to start looking for a long term replacement - someone young who can come in and share the work load, and then eventually take over fully.

Once the 1st line is broken, he has too much space to cover and he's been struggling to do so as Pogba isn't too much of a help. Would it be crazy to suggest Lingard in a mid of three? He helps with blocking and he has the ability to cover up a lot of space due to his energy, giving Matic less ground to cover. Edit: forgot about the Newcastle match. Scrap that last part out.

Jose tried to tell us that he did that in the game against Newcastle I believe. Lingard is no center mid and should never be played there, we need proper center mids playing the role, its the engine room and really one of if not the most important part of the team. A good center mid will help the defence look good and help the attack look sweet, they are the foundation for both parts of the pitch.

Can't believe how thin we are on that area. Forgot about this detail re: Newcastle match. Not here anymore who suggested that.

Lazio have confirmed that De Vrij will be a free agent in the summer. I think he's probably better than most of what we have. If we're turfing out Rojo, Blind and Smalling then we need to get one CB in at a minimum, and that's assuming Tuanzabe steps up as well.

I think Jose has acknowledged that Matic was playing with an injury a few months ago. Probably is still doing so, which explains his poor form. Injuries in midfield have completely messed up any chance of a proper rotation. Matic definitely needs a rest.

Or maybe to replace Matic? Matic is showing his age. Much like PHC. Good for 20 minutes and woefully missing for 70. I hope you can see the funny side of the comments

Bamboozled by folks opinion on Matic. He had a very poor game against Spurs - who didn't? However he has been Mr dependable in every other game. Absolutely fantastic addition to this team.
