He isn't playing for Spurs? Presume I've missed something here. 21 games last season. 14 in the league. But he still plays for Spurs which is what I was alluding to.

Do find it somewhat amusing that all day and even since 5pm social media has been utterly obsessed with us not signing a defender.
Yet Spurs sign nobody, Chelsea pay a laughable and ridiculous amount for a goalkeeper and Everton spunk another £50m for another player that's nowhere near their value.
One thing for certain no matter what we do we're still the first team on people's minds instead of their own.

Its not that bad. Martial stays. Dave stays. Mata stays. Sure the defense has not improved personnel wise. But then, it looks like 3-5-2 is the preferred system so at least there will always be 8 behind the ball. Ya know ... silver linings and all.
We've still not fixed that glaring RW issue so we'll be trying to fit 11 payers into RW as usual.
For me Martial and Rashford should be nailed on LW or left of the three whatever. Then sort it out between Lukaku and Sanchez to play central and right of the three. If he continues with the way he set up last year, not playing to Martial and Rashford strengths and not sorting out that balance, along with Tony V's chicken dance, i will switch off

Really do wonder if it's just pure incompetence or whether it's reluctance from the board to further support Jose that resulted with how underwhelming our transfer window has been. I'm guessing that it's both.
Since we can't expect any more arrivals, I'd say that it's time to give Lindelof and Bailly a solid run as our first choice CB pairing and to play Sanchez on the right. Other than that, we're probably most fragile with our fullbacks - hopefully Shaw and Dalot can push Valencia and Young to the bench (especially Shaw). It's probably a little hopeful, but if Martial, Rashford and Pogba will be properly utilized by Jose, and if Lukaku improves on last season, we should be able to compete.

I agree, I think it's time Lindelof and Bailly were given a decent run in the side.
They can't establish any sort of partnership if he's refusing to play them when they're available.

The point of all this is that the owners don't want to invest what is needed to get us back to the pinnacle of English and European football. They are quite happy bleeding the club dry knowing the fans can do fuck all about it. I can see us scraping top 4 at best and winning nothing , I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it

What I want to know is who was on that list? Imo Umtiti, Perisic and Varane were big possibles. I think Ed wanted Bale but I reckon Jose swerved him after him snubbing us the previous season. I reckon Maguire and Toby were too but deemed too expensive so we walked. We were never going to get Umtiti or Varane. Barca and Real would ask for 100m or something like this. Well dealing with Real or Spurs is never easy business either way. By all accounts Macguire was well down the list if the rumours are to be believed.

Martial, Pogba, De Gea all stay. I was certain Martial was a goner, but this means he'll be here when the new manager is announced this winter. Very surprised we didn't get Toby or any other shiny new toy. I think if Fred had been signed later in the window we would all feel more satisfied. I am really looking forward to seeing Fred play with Matic. As long as the opponents never get past our midfield, we're golden.

Fellaini signed a new contract and our two full backs that will start the season are still two 30+ converted wingers. Trying to be positive but it’s hard to look past that. Imagine if Fellani had left we probably wouldn't get a replacement with Ed Balls up in charge.

It might help if Bailly hadn't been so injury prone last season. Never mind there's an international break in around 3 weeks I'm sure there's a way it can happen again.

I know its doom and gloom but lets put things in perspective. Here is our squad for this season:
GKs - De Gea, Romero, Grant
Defenders - Bailly, Jones, Smalling, Lindeloff, Rojo, Darmian, Dalot, Shaw, Valencia and Young
Midfielders - Pogba, Fred, Matic, Herrera, Perreira, McTominay, Fellaini and Mata
Forwards - Lukaku, Sanchez, Lingard, Martial, Rashford
Our team at the end of 2013/14 before the first big spend:
GKs - De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos
Defenders- Rio, Vidic, Evra, Jones, Smalling, Buttner, Valencia, Evans, Rafael
Midfielders - Carrick, Fletcher, Cleverley, Fellaini, Giggs, Mata, Kagawa, Young, Nani
Forwards - Zaha, Rooney, RVP, Chicharito, Wellbeck, Wilson
We are vastly better upfront and in midfield. Rio, Vidic and Evra were such massive holes to fill. Shaw was meant to be the long-term option and could still take the job this year. Bailly and Lindeloff are both 24. Vidic came here at the same age before ultimately developing into one of the best CBs we've ever had. I know it was a shit summer but nothing beats the downs of summer 2013. We have a good enough squad to compete!

It's the same squad as last year that was 19 points of city, ye we have added Fred who will be part of the first team, but we also have players who are unhappy, older full backs and we still have fellaini, and most improtantly we still have Jose in charge so nothing is going to change anytime soon

He could be the missing piece in midfield. city had quite a few freakish last minute wins last year. Sign of a good team yes but that luck can change as well. I don't think we'll be off the pace by as much.
