we should be comfortably beating these, they aren't in good form winning only 1 in last 6, against Luton. Drawn 3; 1-1 and been beat 3-1 & 3-0 by City & Chelsea away from home.
would like to see us play 4-3-3, please Jose you know its right.
--------------- DDG
Tony V -- Jones -- Rojo -- Shaw
-------------- Matic
--- Herrera ---------- Pogba
Sanchez ------------------ Martial
-------------- Rom
imo, this is the best balanced team to play away from home. strong and experienced all over the pitch with plenty of options off the bench. Sanchez to play RW and he can do anything whilst martial is more comfortable on the left.
wont be able to watch this game either as my missus is in hospital. bloody NHS operating on sundays...

Was at the home game vs. this lot, and after we went a goal down we absolutely battered them. I remember Pogba in particular being fantastic, but the whole team was on song that day.
Knowing FSW he'll be just as defensive at home as he was away, so we should be equally aggressive going forward. Win is a necessity to keep taking advantage of recent slips by Chelsea and the Scouse, and there's no reason why we shouldn't win.

I'm as much on the 4-3-3 train as anyone, but in fairness Newcastle will likely be so defensive that we can probably swap Herrera in that team for Mata/Lingard in the 10 role instead. There are many games where 3 in midfield is now a necessity, but I'm hopeful that this isn't one of them. Also no Rojo plz

Last month I said I thought the gap needed to be single digits by the time we face Sevilla, and that we would have needed to beat Spurs in the process. We obviously lost to Spurs (looking shit in the process) and the gap can't be less than 10 even if they lose this weekend (edit: though, in fairness, 10 obviously isn't far from 9 - maybe I should believe a little). I don't really see them collapsing that much in such a short time, though KDB's talk of them being shattered does make me think there's a slim chance. But more importantly, I can't see us showing the ruthless consistency required to overhaul them should the opportunity become available, particularly given how many big games we would need to win. I live in hope, but I don't think it's gonna happen sadly. It's less about them faltering and more about our ability to actually capitalise.

The league is as good as done, those stupid draws around Christmas did for us. However, I think it’s important to finish strongly (aside from the various cups to be won) because it could have a galvanizing effect similar to the end of 2005-06. Even with a CM pairing of O’Shea and Giggs that team went on a great run and at least made the league interesting. It also meant the team didn’t need that much work and the signing of Carrick along with the return of Scholes pushed us over the edge. I’d like to see the same now which can mean we’d really push on into next year, when we shouldn’t be drawing with bloody Burnley and Soton at home. Obviously I’d be delighted to be proved wrong but I dont see it.

Establish an identity again. Switch players/roles within that system per opponent but overall choose a tactical shape and style and stick to it. Purely reacting to other teams is killing us.

Fair point, never really thought about it like that. I can get on board with that for sure.

Purely reacting to other teams is killing us. Fair point, never really thought about it like that. I can get on board with that for sure. my reasons were that we get the most of out Pogba playing in 3 man mid and when hes on form and got the freedom hes by far our best player. when we have mata/lingard as 10 I think our style of play goes dire and it restricts pogba too much and also over runs Matic which we need to start protecting a little bit more. we don't want him gassed out before the next fixtures. we have Huddersfield away in FA Cup next Saturday then Sevilla (wed) and Chelsea (sun). 3 massive games coming up. Huddersfield might not sound much but FA Cup is our best shot at a trophy this year so we cant afford any slip ups.

How's your nerves? Jose has never won a Premier league game at St James Park.
