He clearly means the likes of Chong and Gomes. Liverpool had to avoid defeat to get top 4. City had a chance to break 100 points, a feat that may never be equaled. We had nothing to play for. It still doesn't justify the moaning about youth when neither of those two have given youth a chance though. There have been plenty mocking city for their lack of opportunities for youth players on here throughout the season. Points record is just another poor excuse. Pool have left themselves in the position of CL qualification on the final day because of recent poor results over the last month or so. I couldn’t give a flying fuck what City and the Scouse did. It’s completely irrelevant what they do with youth. Manchester Utd always have been and always will be the pioneers for that. Worry about your own club and don’t defend Jose through the actions of others.

I don't give a shit about what Pep or Klopp do with their squads. It was a meaningless game and a good chance go give some young guys a chance, that's all. But he didn't so why the meltdown on here about it ?

Without using other clubs as excuses, explain to me why you’re ok with the likes of Chong not getting 20 mins at the end? In a completely meaningless game? I’m just curious.

It's a great prize and a nice gesture to these talanted young lads. It can drive them even further or it just gives them a great experience. It doesn't cost a thing for Mourinho or for the club to do it so why won't he?

I will be joining Carrick in retiring today, from match making threads.
100% unbeaten record and with a correct scoreline prediction. Go out on a high, that's what I say.

It was not a meaningless game. It would have been if we didn't have the FA cup final next weekend. But because we do we obviously need to give game time to squad players especially those who didn't play midweek. And also after drawing and losing our previous two games going into the final with a win under our belt was important psychologically. And it is very nice to break the 80 point barrier for the first time since Fergie left.
And more cynically Darmian and Blind featured to remind prospective buyers that they can still play football and are injury free after barely featuring this season. BTW I think the fact Martial didn't feature probably has something to do with a clause in his contract that means 25 premier league goals triggers another payout to Monaco. Obviously if we are thinking of selling him this summer there is no point risking triggering that clause.
The youngsters will get games during the pre-season and especially after clearing out some deadwood in the squad a few of them may get some chances next season. I think if we win the FA Cup we can go back to treating the domestic cups as audition games for youngsters and focus more on the league.

If we don't have the squad to 'carry' playing a couple of our up and coming youth players for half an hour and still beat a Watford team with nothing to play for, at Old Trafford, we are in bad shape.

The final game of last season was played just before a major final (way, way more important than this one as it determined whether or not we'd have Champions League football the following year), and we went into it on the back of one win in our previous 7 games, scoring just 4 goals in the process (City 0-0, Swansea 1-1, Celta Vigo 1-0, Arsenal 0-2, Celta Vigo 1-1, Spurs 1-2, Southampton 0-0); yet Mourinho still thought it suitable to start Pereira, TFM, Mitchell, McTominay, Tuanzebe, and Harrop, and sub Gomes on.
But apparently no young kids could possibly feature in this game?

81 points is a decent return and a nice improvement from last year. Was reading on redcafe about how we dropped 15 points to the bottom 7 teams. That is unacceptable if true and something we need to fix next year. If we nail the transfer market again then I think we will be much closer and should have a legitimate title challenge.

We won every league game we scored first in, only the 2nd time that's ever happened in the Premier League (after, rather inexplicably, Portsmouth).
Nice enough stat on its own merits, but probably just reinforces Mourinho's belief that pulling everyone back and defending once we get 1-0 up is the right way forward.
