Former player Alex Greenwood taking the award for most disloyal player in history; Everton to Liverpool to United to Lyon to City. It's shit like this that makes women's football being an add-on to existing clubs meaningless.

You have mentioned the women's team a couple of times. Why is the women's team important to you? I only ask because to me all these women's team add-ons to professional football clubs seems like a pointless box-ticking exercise. I genuinely don't care at all about our women's team beyond it being another example of the owners trying to do everything on the cheap. I am interested to (try to!) understand why others put so much emphasis on it. PSA: I am aware this might spark a debate or backlash so to be clear, I am only asking 'yez because it was included a couple of times. I am not criticising anyone that believes women's football is important. It’s an interesting one even for me, who can often be on the “woke”side of these debates. I enjoyed the women’s Euros win last year but I think women’s football still has a huge way to go and generally find it a hard watch. One of my issues is this trying to fast-track it into the mainstream, by doing things like emitting the word ‘women’s’ when talking about a match. Like they’re saying it’s just Man Utd v Arsenal, no need to mention gender. It’s a bit if a nonsense. I think it would be more beneficial to actually have teams that aren’t associated with a men’s team, at least the famous ones. The standard would be helped by them playing on smaller pitches, with smaller goals and shorter matches. The best women’s sports all acknowledge biological differences between men and women. The two highest standard for me are tennis and golf. Both have a different setup to the men. Tennis they play less sets at the grand slams and in golf they play shorter courses more appropriate to the distances they can hit it. Both are full of exceptional talent and you legitimately watch them and think there isn’t a great deal of difference in skillset. I just never get that same feeling when watching football. It often looks a little Sunday league. My biggest gripes are: simply porting 'actual' football to say 'Here are professional women now!' clearly short-changes everyone. Basically every other women's version of a given sport has allowances for the physical differences while football still has them playing on full size pitches for 90 minutes. It's why goalkeepers look ridiculous FFS. Which leads to: force-feeding it as equal to the men's game takes everyone for an idiot. They patently aren't and that isn't the womens' fault. Which also leads to: If they want women's professional football to be taken seriously then give grants to set up professional women's clubs. Instead of coat-tailing established actual football clubs and having then almost inevitably being considered an afterthought by many people. Stew could/should these posts be moved into a new General Football thread by the way?

Folks, there’s been some healthy, reasoned debate about the women’s team but it was in the wrong tread. Let’s keep it here.
Cheers.

This thread alone shows the general interest in the women’s team.
The last post before the recent debate was 2.5 years ago.

Both are full of exceptional talent and you legitimately watch them and think there isn’t a great deal of difference in skillset. I just never get that same feeling when watching football. It often looks a little Sunday league. The WNBA is the biggest piece of shit parading as women's sport. The reasons are exactly like you mentioned - they play the game using the men's format and rules. The result is a fucking travesty where a single dunk is celebrated like a game winner. Games are low scoring shitfests and then we have people complain about a bad product. Even the majority of women don't watch it! Like you said, if women's team sports are tailored to fit their strengths and limitations, it would do much better than what it is right now. It'll I’ve seen a bit of the United women’s team this year and there is some genuine talent. Russo and Toone standout in particular in terms of quality on the ball. But they are done a complete disservice by having to run around on a full size pitch for 90 minutes. It’s just common-sense and in no way a criticism of women, just simple biology. As Bestie said in the other thread, seeing these tiny goalkeepers in full-size goals is just stupid.

I've always been slightly reluctant to watch women in combat sports ( probably due to the era I was brought up in, being an old fucker) however, after watching this...
Changed my outlook. These women are warriors and have spent years honing the skills. This was one of the greatest fights I have seen, be it men or women. MMA has definitely changed my opinion about women fighting. As for the football, it's a bit meh for me. I have no real vested interest in it at the moment.

Just watching the last 5 of Utd v spurs and the points about pitch and goal size are reasonable.
It’s a bit like watching an under 16s game.
Won 2-1 btw.

Fair play to the womens team for being top of the league. I watch them on CBS sports network or paramount+ whenever I can, including today before the Forest/Everton match. Don't seem to lose their heads like the mens team sometimes do.

Congratulations to our women’s team who’ve just stuffed Spurs 3-0 earlier. The can potentially be caught by Chelsea, but only if they win all their games in hand. Good stuff.

Can’t even run the women’s team properly with Russo running her contract down and joining Arsenal on a free.
Big United fan as well by all accounts so got to assume they’ve handled the contract renewal poorly. Shock horror.

Big United fan as well by all accounts so got to assume they’ve handled the contract renewal poorly. Shock horror. Had 2 record bids for her in Jan from Arsenal aswell. The women's team getting the mens treatment. Had a fantastic season qualifying for europe for the first time and they get their legs cut from under them. The incompetence within this club is incredible. So fucking annoying dragging this takeover out as long as it is. Really hope awful things happen to the whole family when they eventually fuck off.
