That doesn’t make my argument that the team had been in decline any less. In fact it strengthens it. It’s not a stick to beat him with it’s a fact unless someone wants to make a valid argument otherwise. In the 2009 season we lost Ronaldo , Tevez and Hargreaves was crocked. 3 key players in a great CL winning team lost. Summer signings were Obertan (who we were mocked by Blanc for buying if I remember) Owen and Valencia. Hardly signings to keep a once great team ticking. not quite sure what your getting at. the first point you made was that fletcher wouldn't get in any top team and was over rated ? No my initial point was that since the Class of 92 the standout player from our academy was Wes Brown. Nowhere did I say Fletcher was overrated. I said that in a great team he wouldn’t start. Not really a controversial statement.

Is this the same Darren Fletcher who absolutely dominated AC Milan twice and was instrumental in numerous European performances during a time when we’d found the perfect formula of how to play in the Champions League? What the fucks going on here man? Yet again we are having a different argument nowhere have I said he wasn’t a good player. He was , I said that. Unfortunately imo he wouldn’t start in a great Manchester United team. Unfortunately we have a highly predictable OMG what did she say , is she shitting on Fletcher here kind of reaction.

In fairness to karma Wes Brown was a supremely talented defender. Just had bad luck.

Wes was epic in that 07/08 season at right back. The cross for Ronaldo in the European Cup final was an absolute peach.

Yeah brown was a better player for me I was always pissed of when Fletcher used to start in cm me and my dad would always be fuming, i always thought he was a very good squad player but never believed he was good enough to start for us

Were people asleep for huge parts of Fletcher's United career? He was important for us for a number of years.

Were people asleep for huge parts of Fletcher's United career? He was important for us for a number of years. Thinking the same thing. There is no way Brown was a better player than Fletcher was. They play in different positions for a start and although Brown was a talented defender Fletcher was an important player for a much longer period. Both players played their parts but for me Fletcher was a much more important player for us.

Fletcher is the player that always reminds me to give the academy kids more of a chance. I thought he'd never be anything for us for years, but he grew as a player and was a legitimately important part of one of our all-time great periods.

I thought he'd never be anything for us for years, but he grew as a player and was a legitimately important part of one of our all-time great periods. I wrote a match of the season piece for the old Voice of Mancunia (whatever happened to that?) and nominated the second semi final against Arsenal in the Champions League. Not only did I single out Fletch in that game but someone else wrote a piece about him being our player of the season that year. He was immense, and I still stand by my original assertion that he would have made all the difference against Barcelona in the final.
