Looks like we are back to single households again in the Manchester area. Was heading to my mates tonight as well to watch the Beastie boys documentary. Fuck.

Did anyone see that muppet Matt Hancock’s response when questioned as to “how many people had been checked that they’ve been observing the rules whilst they’ve been in quarantine”, “ I don’t know the answer to that question” “How many people do you have making these checks?” Same answer. Hapless cunt.
ok, how would you police that people are staying in quarantine?
When I had my week off week of self isolation, I made sure that I stayed at home with no contact for 5 days however i know someone that only did 4 as she said 'its only one day' and went to get her fkn hair cut.

I’ve now got some suitable IT (in the form of a tricked-up Surface Pro 7) which will allow me to work from home, this after only almost 5 months, but at least I can support my colleagues in the office, although that said, I cannot see myself returning there anytime soon, unless there’s either an effective vaccine, or therapy. My (UK Civil Service) Department are now asking if employees would prefer either to work from home ,in the office, or a mixture of the two. Utterly fucked up. BTW on a related subject, has anyone booked a European holiday this year? Similar situation in my department. Spent last week conducting interviews with staff who would be willing to go home, in order to bring back the folks who were sent home at the start but can’t work from home for whatever reason. I don’t really get what’s changed though, the office is no safer now than when they went home. I guess they just got sick of paying people their full salary if they’re not able to work from home.

Didn’t say it was. Was merely pointing out the less than ideal timing.

Something I forgot to point out was easter basically being cancelled already this year.

Aye, but not 3 hours before the fact and plans have been cast in concrete. As you’ve said it’s not a religious thing, but the timing, at 9pm the day before, was more what I was getting at.

I lived in Oldham for over 5 years. I was there during the riots. Unfortunately there are large communities that are almost isolated from the rest of the town. Pockets of them spread throughout the borough.
Many generations live alongside each other , many non English speaking.
If other towns in the North West are like Oldham then it’s probably a perfect storm for the virus to spread easily throughout communities.
Wasn’t one of the reasons Italy got it so bad was down to many generations living together in close proximity. Youngsters passing the virus to their older relatives.
Could this be similar?
It sucks for those wanting to celebrate but unfortunately we’ve all had to make sacrifices during this pandemic.
I’ve not seen my mum since February.

Would it have been better to just let Eid go ahead and allow a large spike in cases? I seem to remember plenty of people (in general, not specifically on here) complaining the government were too slow to move into lockdown.

The government were slow to react. They were slow to mandate face coverings. Announcing a lockdown when hotels, food and travel have been paid for, for a religious holiday, 3 hours before the actual is a bit shit. Like I said, imagine this has been done at 9pm on Christmas Eve and essentially making 98% of the board ‘criminals’. Political affiliations aside. Only the Yanks and Brazilians have dealt with this worse than us. You can argue with my pointing out the piss poor timing, which the latest ‘lockdown’ has had, if you can call it a lockdown because anywhwrre with a card reader is apparently less likely to give anyone Covid than my flat that no one but me has inhabited for 4 months, is nonsense.

The point is it's a global pandemic of unprecedented scale. We're working from constantly changing information where even the scientists have now said their projections were basically just a random guess. Governments are working without a net here. Not just ours.
