Thought I’d create this thread as I’m under “House Arrest “ for the foreseeable due to this bloody awful virus and ,although there’s (obviously) no sport, there’s an awful lot of great films about same, so here goes:
Too Big To Go Down on BT Sports last week regarding our relegation in 1974 ,not seen it before but remember it as though it were yesterday- My God we played some great football that season after under the Doc-went to EVERY home game as a kid- and we went straight back up as Champions.
George Best On His Own- On BBC iPlayer- Wonderful and tragic, no further explanation necessary.
Death Of A Gentleman- On Amazon Prime- Concerned with Cricket and the (gradual) slow death of Test Cricket in favour of ODI’s and 20-20, and the power and influence that the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) now have over the game- A really interesting film even for non-Cricket fans, and made by a couple of young journo/bloggers. Had a quick scroll through Amazon earlier, who look to have loads of different genres of sports films to look at ,including Golf, Rugby/Both forms of the game, Baseball, Gridiron etc, etc

30 for 30 documentaries are brilliant. I think I've watched all of them. I don't give a single shit about any American sport, but I'll happily sit down for an hour+ and watch a story about the fierce rivalry between the Louisville Stink Bugs and the Gatlinburg Fentanyls or whoever, and all the shady or inspiring or interesting stuff that happens in the background.

“Fastball” really good film about who was/is considered the fastest baseball pitcher of all time, on the same subject Ken Burns’ documentary series “Baseball” is utterly fascinating, even if you don’t like the sport.

This is dropping on Netflix this Monday. 2 episodes a week for 5 weeks. One of the undisputed greatest teams of all time in any sport, the 90s Bulls. There’s already buzz that this is one of the best sports documentaries in many, many years.

Burns could make a documentary about paint drying on walls and it would be compelling.

Currently watching “The Test” on Prime about the rebuilding of the Australia Test side, under Justin Langer, following the (horrendous) ball tampering episode in 2018 involving Steve Smith,David Warner and Cameron Bancroft , who I think, had Richie Benaud had still been alive at the time, would never have represented their country at test level ever again.

And it really made me miss basketball and sports in general even more.

He’d started playing this year and really misses it..

What a ride it's going to be for the next 3 weeks.

Something that genuinely blew my mind was that Pippen's deal in 1991 was 18 million for 7 years.
This is THE Scottie Pippen. Second best player in the NBA arguably. But not even second highest paid player on his team. Not even top 100 in the NBA.
I had to pause for about 2 minutes just to try and grasp that. That's not underrated that's a criminal offense.

I just finished Lazenby’s book on Jordan, which is up there with the very best sports books I’ve read. As Jordan himself has said, some people are going to hate him after this show, certainly if it’s as honest as the book was. Because he was a prick an awful lot of the time. He was an amazing talent but also a merciless bully. It motivated his team but others have had success (Bryant, Curry, Bird, Magic) without carrying on the way he did. He’s matured now by all accounts and fair play to him for participating because I can’t imagine it was easy to look back on himself being such a wanker.
