Would be surprised if we spent any money in January. If SJR has any sense he'd be wary of trusting Erik's judgement and wait until we have a proper recruitment team that can cast a wider net rather than just going with the Low Countries. makes sense not to give a manager a transfer kitty in January who he will probably end up firing by April.

That’s exactly how the Glazers will justify it.

I read somewhere that we didn’t have the funds for transfers this winter. So once again instead of shopping at a top shelf store, we go to the bargain bin. One name out there on a free is M’Vila. DM who on his day played some good football. Anything left n the tank? Not sure but could he be an insurance policy to combat injuries or fatigue?
Would love to see us offload some players this winter if possible, Martial-Sancho-Donny and put that money into the summer funds bucket.

TBH I'm resigned to no signings this January, and (maybe perversely) I think there's enough talent in this squad, when played correctly, for us to salvage this season with a small modicum of respectability; that's all I'm hoping for this season.
But I would be aghast if there wasn't some serious work done in cleaning up our structure and infrastructure: get rid of the hangers-on and mediocrities, give the scouting and youth set ups what they need to succeed, and at least make a start on making OT less of an embarrassment. City had Beguiristain etc in place before they got Pep, so let's get the machine ticking over properly first. Put the high-level pieces in place for as well-planned assault next season: new leaders, new structure and a coherent strategy. Let's stop pissing in the wind.

Maybe a few loans with option to buy in Jan and get the likes of VDB,martial out the door.

I'm resigned to no signings in Jan too, but I do think (though I'm contradicting myself) that a forward will come in.
It just has to, if there's any hope of salvaging the season then another forward to take the burden off Hojlund is just a massive must. More than any other area of the pitch. Midfield isn't great but Mainoo has played so well in his appearances, and Casemiro and Mount are returning. Wide area's been poor but Amad is returning soon. Defense been shit but Martinez about to return.
There's just nothing behind Hojlund other than a sulking Rashford who doesn't want to play as a 9 and downs tools if ever asked to, and Martial who is, well, we all know. There is Hugill who is going well at level 2, 7 goals in 9 games, but it would be a major gamble to throw him into the mix.
Another proper striker as an option on the bench, or to come in and give Hojlund a rest, could make the difference.

January should have the primary function of sales first and foremost Depending on that we can look for a striker.

If we can somehow move DVB, Martial and Sancho (in whatever form), and manage to bring in an extra forward, I'd say it would be a successful January.
With Licha coming back, and a few others returning from injury the squad will look better come the new year.

For the first time since Sir Alex left, the club has to start thinking long term. Sell sell sell in January and only buy if/when the right players are available

Hopefully a player like Antony never gets to the point of needing to be vetoed ever again.

I think it’s safe to say ETH will be backed but not without questions and he certainly won’t be getting a £10 million player for £80 million.

Inter close to bankruptcy. Real shame if Barella and Bastoni came here. Real, real shame…
