Be interesting to see how many slating ETH for signing Amrabat were bigging up the signing 7 months ago. I know I wanted him. It hasn't worked out, but I'm not gonna pretend like that was obvious. Other than one or two dissenting voices ( I recall Tatty being against it) the general vibe was "He's a good player, had a great world cup and owned Rice in the Euro final, happy with this, it's an upgrade on Mcfred".

But RoM posters aren't paid to evaluate talent for Manchester United. The manager of Manchester United must know more than armchair scouts surely? Isn't it frightening that the manager had the same vibe as RoM? Let's go further - I don't think a single poster here thought it made sense to sign Mason Mount or let De Gea go and pay 50 million for Onana. Yet he signed them and they've also been car crashes. He cannot be trusted to evaluate talent properly and there's no fucking way he should be allowed to have veto or a deciding vote in transfers.

You’re obviously right that our opinions on signings shouldn’t be relied upon. However I’ve took it more as Daz saying, if you backed the signing to start with, it is a bit rich now going berserk about it.

What worries me is that there is rarely anyone else seriously linked to our transfer targets.
We had a free run at Sancho. A free run at Antony. A free run at Mason Mount (everyone else looked at the wages he wanted and the transfer fee Chelsea were demanding and figured they'd just wait and see if he was available on a free in the summer-exactly what we should have done). We should have smelled a rat with Amrabat when Fiorentina were offering him for only £20m or so on a permanent deal and there were no takers-and apparently even our scouting team weren't sold on him and Erik kept pushing for the deal. Everyone knew Casemiro was a fantastic player but understandably no one else was prepared to offer a long contract on huge wages the way we were.
At least with Erik's more successful signings like Martinez and Hojlund we had some competition. Arsenal in the case of Martinez and PSG in the case of Hojlund.

To the best of my knowledge Tatty was the only one that said the guy was dud. I was all in

I hold my hands up to being in favour of signing Amrabat even though i'd seen very little of him but the way everyone on the outside was waxing lyrical about him i thought he must be decent and i was desperate for a midfield signing, turns out he's not very good or just not suited to the premier league at least. You would like to think though that Erik would have known this, you can't have cart horses playing in this league!
In my opinion we still need at least 2 midfielders in the summer, the neglect of that area of the pitch over the last 10 years or even more, even in to Fergie's time, is mind boggling! drives me nuts!

I was delighted we signed Hojlund and stood by him even during his dry spell. Sadly I thought Antony was going to be excellent for us. I also thought Amrabat would be a good signing so will hold my hands up. Quite a lot of us did. However, most of us thought Mount was a decent player but not needed at all. Some people thought he was a good buy as he’d show Bruno up. Which didn’t go well.
As pointed out above, I’m not employed in football and I’d expect someone who is to be a far better judge than me.

As I have been slating Amrabat lately. I would like to say I absolutely was one of those who said he was SHITE and couldn't believe we were so keen on him! It was mostly me and Tatty. However it doesn't matter if people backed him or wanted him to be a good signing then and now point out he is crap. I think most thought he would be a good back up for Cas, but unfortunately for all of us he is SHITE! I thought Sancho would be for us like Bernardo Silva is/was for City .. I actually said that!!

We need 2 DM's come summer. I think Mainoo has levels within and he will express himself alot more knowing that there is someone in the middle that is fully capable of holding the fort.
There are other needs 2 but let's be honest sales are gonna drive the level of activity we have.

He will show Bruno up, but for that 2 things need to happen - Stay fit and convince ETH to play him over Bruno. Both unlikely. I honestly think he is a good player.

Probably right but as you say he won’t drop Bruno so we’ll never find out…

Seen we have been linked with Bournemouth young lb can't say I have seen much from him tbh, but we need a new lb and those types of deals always seem to be something other clubs seem to do, it would be nice to see some smart moves going forward now.

Mirror reporting that PSG want Rashford for £75m.
Any takers to drive him to the airport?

Hopefully he has a good euros and then gets the move and we get a bog fee, top player on his day, but unfortunately those days just are not regular enough, the move will be best for both parties.
