All the papers going with us going for Southgate. I hope it's just clickbait, but that would be unbearable! I can't stand Southgate and have no idea why that would even be a consideration( Even if he does manage to win the Euros) I genuinely think it would be the most united our fan base would be in not wanting him anywhere near the job. Ogden the one reporting it. How credible is he anyway?

I hope its all smoke and mirrors from Jim , if we keep hoping for another CO92 to come and rescue us we will be waiting for a long long time. Fergie himself was not opposed to spending money when it was needed , i think if we take the inflation corrected fees for the likes of Rooney, Rio, Carrick , Nani, Berbatov etc it will be significant. Lot of our issues started when he started penny pinching under glazers towards the end. Not saying we should go for Mbappe (zero chance he will come to current United anyway) , but we should always be looking to get the best and not some 18 year old kid who may or may not end up good in next 7 years.(Martial iam looking at you !) Edit : this quote and now the Southgate rumours is not exactly screaming an ambitious owner if true

Take with a pinch of salt these days. Wasn't even 2 days in and Southgate was replacing Ten Hag and Garnacho was off to Madrid 😂.

On the Garnacho to Madrid thing, I believe that he was asked to choose between Barca and Madrid…
Ages ago and nothing to do with us…
Clickbait as you say…

Garnacho idolises CR7 and is an ambitious kid with no real ties to the UK so Real Madrid probably is on the cards at some point. We've got him tied down for the next 4 years. But if we want him to extend over those next 4 years we need to turn into a team that looks capable of winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
I can also imagine him being distinctly unimpressed if we bring in someone like Potter or Southgate as manager. Erik has his faults but he at least has a track record of developing young players at Ajax.

Wirtz is quite the player but the recent batch of Bundesliga talents to the PL has been a dud, Haaland aside but he’s in another category.
Also every few years I give a bias recommendation for someone in the polish squad who I’d like to see at the club. Currently it’s Nicola Zalewski, can play left or right side of the midfield or even fullback, he has phenomenal work rate and stamina, and a lovely cross.

I think bringing in another midfielder this summer is going to be absolutely crucial. We messed up this year bringing in Mount and Amrabat who've made next to no impact. And our midfield has looked very porous this season and we've struggled to find the right balance with Casemiro and Eriksen's decline hurting us badly.
We've been linked to Joao Gomes of Wolves, Bruno Guimareas of Newcastle, Barella of Inter, and Joao Neves of Benfica.
Joao Neves would be my pick as he has the world at his feet and a midfield of him and Mainoo for the next 5-10 years is mouth watering. But he would cost a fortune. I think it would be totally worth it but SJR in interviews seems reluctant to spend big on individual players.
Bruno Guimareas would definitely be worth a look and Newcastle need to raise funds this summer and fits the profile of a deep-lying playmaker which we've missed since Eriksen lost his place in the team. Although he will probably end up at Liverpool or Manchester City. And he has a £100m release clause and if there is competition for his signature it could drive up the transfer fee close to that and Newcastle aren't going to want to sell their crown jewel cheaply to us especially as they are already pissed with us for poaching Dan Ashworth.
Barella is a lovely player and Ashworth is reportedly a huge fan and tried to sign him for Newcastle. But problem with that is it means pushing Mainoo into a CDM role and I'd rather we don't do that. Would also be very expensive if he has another good international competition.
Joao Gomes is a tenacious tough tackling midfielder and could be a long term replacement for Casemiro. He'd also probably be the cheapest of the lot and £40m might be enough. But I don't think his passing is good enough for an Erik Ten Hag team.
Any other names we should be considering?

We all know he should be sold, but to be fair to him in relation to the madness we've handed out over the last ten years or so, at least he's earned it.

I mentioned this guy a few weeks ago. Lots of noise saying we’re signing him then loaning him out for a year. Supposedly very highly rated young CB. 17 mill

We need 2 midfielders at least! we have got to start dominating that area, signing one midfielder won't cut it, we need options, top class options at that!

Supposedly very highly rated young CB. 17 mill I am ok with getting guys like this only if they go out and get someone like Todibo or Antonio Silva to pair with Licha or Varane. 17mil is a cost worth giving a shot at if he can turn into a stud alongside Licha. Evans is retiring, Slab Head is becoming injury prone, Lindelof isn't good enough or will have to play LB because our players can't stay healthy, Kambwala isn't to the level yet or at all.... LB situation brings me to another point, we desperately need back fill for positions because christ alive the back ups we don't have is more concerning than the lack of talent we do have as back ups in this team.
