We had the same problem under Ole. He couldn't get much use out of either Lukaku or Ronaldo and our best football was when we didn't have a target man and played mostly on the counter. Same in Erik's first season. Whenever we tried to play with a target man e.g. Ronaldo, Wout they struggled to score goals. And most of our goals came from the counter with Rashford particularly effective. This season Rashford's effectiveness has been blunted with Hojlund's arrival (although his crappy attitude hasn't helped) and we aren't getting the most out of Hojlund who's been starved of good service. Ole you can understand only knowing how to play on the counter. But Erik is supposed to be tactically competent so its very worrying he hasn't got the tactics right this season and our goals total is a testatement to that. Whats the story with Hojlund's crappy attitude?
He is one of the few forwards with is over achieving his XGs,he has XG of 7.3 and he has scored 8 in the league.
Its painful, cause he got two passes last night while he was in the box and he made one count. We have wingers who want all the glory and prefer to beat players rather than a simple pass. Rashford has been the main issue, so frustrating to watch, always trying to dribble instead of making the simple pass.
If you look as Højlund during the game, he makes many runs into the box but no one picks him out

yea there is no indication of Hojlund having a bad attitude at least on the field. Surprisingly he has a really good attitude during matches. If he did and it was directed at his teammates who completely starve him for actual service in the box then I would actually say it's warranted lol.

Rasmus is a big strong lad. I’d say he’ll start taking the head off people next year when they don’t play the right pass. At least I hope he does.

End of the day, any young player halfway ambitious is going to look at some of our jokers and think, fuck this you’re not on my level. It’s that or you just fall in with them and become one yourself. That’s what separates the men from the boys isn’t it. |

Signs Hojlund but we don't have anyone capable of providing any kind of service. Erik's trick pony Antony has only managed a single assist in the Premier League all season. Rashford has only managed 2 assists in the Premier League. And for whatever reason Bruno doesn't seem to combine well with a target man. We had the same issue when he and Ronaldo were in the same team. Probably Garnacho gives Hojlund the best service.
We really need another winger this summer. The problem of course is that Rashford is going nowhere after we hastily gave him a bumper new contract on the back of half a season of good form.

The Rashford contract can't be pinned on ETH but his inclusion in pretty much every game can. I don't see ETH surviving without a trophy. |
