This was so turgid surely the endgame for Southgate is close ? More than likely but the fan reaction throwing beer on him etc is fucking toxic. Man took over a team that was put out by Iceland, has big fat Sam cashing in for a couple of months and somehow made it to a World Cup semi and then has pushed on and nearly won a euros and got to a WC quarters. I’m not saying he’s the answer or a great manager but he’s given me some unreal memories as an England fan that i hadn’t had for a long time. You think we’re bad now you should have seen us somehow stumble into a semi final in italia 90 despite being fucking dreadful for most of the tournament. But also football aside southgate seems like a bloody nice bloke and the fact he sat up there and welcomed the criticism because it took heat off his players speaks volumes for the man. Again I’m not expecting anything from this tournament or him really but fucking hell memories are short.

On Sabitzer, I was someone who wasn’t bothered that we didn’t sign him. He was injured a couple of times in his spell here and wasn’t great when he played. I really didn’t think we could sign him on that basis. I did not however realise that we would sign Mason Mount for a fortune.
He’s been terrific in this tournament though. And fair play, redemption for Rangnick too.

I do think people get carried away these days.

Tough to watch as Sabitzer has great leadership qualities that our squad desperately needs and is clearly far superior to Mount and Scotty. And would have been able to buy him for a fraction of the £55m we wasted on Mount.
I blame our medical team and Erik really. When he joined us he was half baked as he'd been warming the bench for Bayern. We threw him into the deep end, he got injured. Probably rushed him back from injury so he got injured again. And this seems to be a constant theme throughout the squad.
As for Rangnick that shows another issue. Our players didn't listen to him. Austrian players did. And difference is light and day. Really important to get an influx of young coachable players without big egos and attitudes.

I can understand the fan disappointment. Preparation for the competition has been entirely inadequate and Southgate's limitations are getting much more exposed in this competition.
The insistence of playing players where they play for their club sides is bizarre (and hasn't even been consistently applied with Trent starting the tournament in midfield). Bellingham is amazing as a number 10 for Real Madrid but he has the likes of Kroos, Modric, Camavinga behind him. Foden is a useful cog in City's well drilled machine but City play an entirely different style of football. And when you have Kane as your striker surely it makes sense to pick wingers who can provide him with the service he needs so he can play higher up the pitch? And while a double pivot worked well when he had Rice and Phillips with Phillips out of form a 4-3-3 would suit England better. Rice could anchor and Mainoo and Bellingham could play ahead of him.
But it isn't all Southgate's fault. England players are overrated and typically get found out in international competitions. They also always arrive at the competition burnt out from the demands of the Premier League campaign. Mentally they are also weak.
Probably the best thing Southgate managed in his early years in the job was to help his players deal with the pressure and bond as a Group and got the nation behind them. That doesn't seem to be working and he has little else to offer as a coach.

England are always predictably terrible, and Southgate is an appalling manager. I just hope Kobbie doesnt get injured.

I do think people get carried away these days. Wouldn’t fling a cup at anyone as I’m a grown adult. However I especially wouldn’t throw a cup at someone because they don’t pick the players I think they should pick to play a fucking game. I did read earlier that the design of the cups has made them ideal to be thrown and that it’s been a consistent issue for numerous teams, managers, players throughout the tournament thus far. Thing with England is, yeah the group stage has been poor. But the group stage wasn’t mint three years ago. Then they turned the Germans over in the next round and they were off to the races. A similar thing against the Dutch and half the goons flinging stuff will be off their nuts on the beak, doing the John Barnes rap with flares hanging out their arse.

Some pathetic and petulant behavior by Ronaldo in this match. Neto and Conceciao play-acting as well. Not a good look.

France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and hosts Germany all on the opposite side of the draw.
Still fully expect Southgate to get knocked out by Switzerland/Italy or Netherlands/Austria.
