Ugarte is a done deal. The only hold up is figuring out whether we raise enough in sale proceeds to buy him upfront or on loan + obligation to buy. So I think we can make our predictions on that basis.
We clearly aren't good enough to finish ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal. We have improved defence immensely this summer so shouldn't leak as many goals. But I don't think our attack has improved much. Hojlund's injury is a blow but even last season he just wasn't getting good enough service as was a bit streaky. Zirzkee is perhaps a better fit with his link up play and ability to create as well as score goals but he isn't a proven goal scorer and another work in progress. Amad and Garnacho are very talented and have massive potential but still a bit inconsistent. Rashford shows no signs of improving and with his £375k a week contract will continue to get far too many minutes. And Bruno cannot do it all while Mount offers very little in terms of attacking output. Hopefully it will get fixed next summer. But even so there should be improvements from last year because Amad and Garnacho are still young and developing and Mainoo will get even better when he has someone like Ugarte around him to do the dirty work.
But if we don't finish 3rd or 4th then it is a sackable offence as you cannot say our squad isn't at least as good as Liverpool and Chelsea and Aston Villa and Tottenham etc.

I've gone optimistic and said CL places, which is a heck of an about turn from my blind rage on Saturday. But presumably getting Ugarte in (hopefully by next weekend!) should, touch wood, be the final piece of the puzzle for what looks on paper to be a very strong transfer window.

As long as the squad stays relatively healthy, I think we can fight for a CL spot. Made some really good signings this summer that have put us in a position to compete.

My gut feel is between 4th and 6th, but there’s so much uncertainty that hopefully will be more resolved over the next few games. On thing for sure, ETH’s arse is on the line now and he needs to deliver. Champions League and a trophy is the absolute minimum.
