I said if we won it would have been. Not sure why you need to constantly attack me on here. Also damn if you do dawned if you don't. If ETH didn't make the changes, you'll be here arguing he should have. Always something ain't it it's not an attack, it's a different opinion. If you don't like being challenged, don't post. lol he said if we had won it would have been our best game. You responded by saying “well we didn’t win so it wasn’t our best game.” That’s not challenging someone.

In the circumstances I think Rashford should’ve started through the middle. I actually like Zirkzee but he doesn’t look a 20+ goalscorer, much better in the build up.
I personally don’t think too much can he thrown at the manager here. We should’ve been out of sight. Even his decision to start Eriksen over Ugarte was ultimately fine, wasn’t like we needed him in there.
Hugely frustrating day. Played some excellent stuff at times but who cares if you fail to put the ball in the back of the net. Have to become more ruthless in the final third. Not just in terms of finishing but still too often we make the wrong decision with the final pass. Didn’t help that Bruno had a shocker either.

Not just in terms of finishing but still too often we make the wrong decision with the final pass. Didn’t help that Bruno had a shocker either. At half time it was more than obvious Bruno was having a mare. Yet he stayed on. Zirkzee is very good at linking up with his wingers and was having a good day up front - yet he got hooked? After about 65 minutes, we regressed and showed barely anything to get the win - the timing coinciding perfectly with Zirkzee's removal. We had all the possession and were all over them, why can't this man actually go for a win rather than play it safe all the time? He could have easily removed Bruno and brought on Rashford or Hojlund. Zirkzee would have been very comfortable playing behind him and we could have materialized a few more concrete chances at least.

The problem with Bruno is he can create something out of nothing even when he is having a poor game. Was rare to see him having as poor a game as he did yesterday so can let that one go.
Thought Zirzkee had a decent game though. Links up nicely. Don't think he's going to be a huge goalscorer but can see him being involved in them.
Just still can't believe we didn't score against that lot.

Yeah I don't think the manager got things that wrong. He took a bit of a risk with the lightweight midfield but Crystal Palace have been shit this season and thanks in part to that midfield we created enough chances to win the game. And some of the motivation was clearly to try to get everyone fit as Zirzkee and Garnacho got starts, Hojlund came off the bench for a little cameo even though he is some way off match fitness. Perhaps Rashford should have started but he's often poor as a number 9 and Erik probably wanted to make the point that just because he's had a few good games doesn't mean he's forgiven and he's an automatic starter again. And as people pointed out Zirzkee contributed a lot to all the chances we created first half.
I like Zirzkee as a player. He's not a 20+ goal scorer but I think he could help our attack gel better and we have players like Bruno, Rashford, Garnacho who should be easily hitting double figures. However we probably do need to start Rashford on the left when we play Zirzkee upfront. That worked quite well in Erik's first season when Weghorst wasn't scoring much but was helping to link play in more of a number 10 role. And I don't think it is a coincidence that Rashford has been better this season since Hojlund's injury as Rashford never seems to combine that well with a target man (same was true when we had Ronaldo upfront) as he is a lot more effective in a winger-cum-forward role that allows him to cut inside and get into goalscoring positions and he's never been one to provide many assists.
But it is cool we have different options. And I see no harm with a bit more rotation this season. It is good for motivation and players need to stop thinking they are entitled to start just because a season or two ago they had a good run of form.

JZ ain't a striker, he's just another 10 we've added to the squad. He might even be the best one we have with the way Erik wants to play

Nothing wrong with that as Rashford plays better with a number 10 than a number 9 and even when Hojlund is back throwing on a number 10 might be able to change games. However it does mean that we need players like Bruno Rashford Garnacho and Amad to step up this season.

Onana is waaaaaay down the list of our problems now. Which is a wild statement after the year he had last year....He about stood on his head yesterday saving the ball. I think having players in fron of him as sure footed and commanding as De Ligt and Licha will do wonders for him this year. Both just have to stay healthy.

Regardless of Rashford starting or not, that game should have been over by halftime.

Rashford who is clearly a confidence player, scores a few in the last couple of games actually looks confident but is then dropped, the game should have been won, but it doesn't make sense to me to not start rashford.
