£17.5m to sack him apparently that shouldn’t even be part of the decision. i want us to do what most big clubs do and fire managers if expectations are not met but we always have this ‘next Fergie’ and ‘needs time’ view on managers. how long would ETH have lasted at real,Bayern or Barca etc? Madrid fans have booed even prime Cristiano Ronaldo, most of our fans are happy with Luke Shaw making few guest appearances. There is really no comparison with them at this point of time. I wanted Conte after last season exactly because of what you just said. We United fans are suckers for this idea of next Fergie coming and taking us back to the top. Not gonna happen. Just get the best manager we can and give him the players he want and start winning, everything else will follow from that

The process of getting Erik was fine. It was exactly what we should be doing. We shouldn’t be getting a Conte, we should be looking to the next big thing who could really put a stint in here.
It hasn’t worked in this instance, but the idea was the right one.

Agreed. It makes no sense. We look like absolute idiots sacking him now after giving him the extension a couple months ago. We will look like idiots sticking with him and missing out on Europe comps... Yes. They have backed themselves into a corner.

£17.5m to sack him apparently Peanuts compared to what we will lose not making CL or even Europa. Maybe they're looking for the right replacement. I think sacrificing a whole season in October is soul destroying in my opinion.

It hasn’t worked in this instance, but the idea was the right one. That’s my original point. most top clubs could easily have made the same decision as us about ETH at the time we hired him but they would have cut him loose at least 12 months ago. Both club and fans need that ruthlessness in their mindset but we are just far too sentimental.

Why?

Honestly, the club is sleep walking towards relegation.
I'll get shit for it, because it's United, and United don't go down; but look at the points gathered over, what, half a season now? 1 point a game? How many games won since about Jan?
The keeper is dodgy, defence shit, midfield a joke and forwards are clueless, all of that adds up to 1 thing.
He is without doubt the worst United manager in my lifetime, and winning the cup last season looks like it was the worst thing that could happen long term as he'd already be gone otherwise.
For all the optimism about the new ownership, I've never felt this depressed about the team.

Only 1 team has scored less than we have and we're currently sat in 13th place.
Lovely stuff 🙄

Ten Hag has this annoying trait of winning just when the chips seem to be down, and leaving us trapped in this one step forward, two steps back death spiral of mediocrity. I never want us to lose but part of me just wants there to be a solid reason for INEOS to pull the trigger sooner rather than later - for all the reasons cited in this thread.
It's all very depressing and soul destroying.

So far I'm alittle underwhelmed by Ineos because they made exactly the same mistake Woodward made with Ole. If its the case that they couldn't find a replacement, then why give him a 3 year contract at 17m? There's probably a hangover from that decision because the players know they were looking and we all know it. Kinda hoping they're squirrelling away in the background but I'll reserve judgement until they do something worthwhile.

Honestly, the club is sleep walking towards relegation. I backed United to get relegated at the start of the season. 150/1. Don't feel good about it, but could be a shrewd move.

I absolutely do not believe the nonsense that it takes years for a coach to establish himself in a new surrounding. There are enough examples out there currently to put this nonsense to bed. Some of the top reds in the Stretford End are still living in the 90s/00s. Stuck in time, refusing to move forward with the game and how it has evolved on and off the pitch. INEOS committed the cardinal sin of caving in to top red pressure. I cannot believe that a cadre of elite professional executives couldn't see the results earlier this year and couldn't predict what was coming. Now they'll again look at the immediate 17m payout rather than the longterm 100m loss. Fucked all round.

I absolutely do not believe the nonsense that it takes years for a coach to establish himself in a new surrounding. There are enough examples out there currently to put this nonsense to bed Perfect example is Maresca. Came from the championship and has started to transfer what was a poor chelsea side last season in little to no time. Granted he has a hell of a squad to choose from, but he's established how he wants his team playing and got them playing it. Time to cut off the hand before we lose the entire arm. We're probably skating close to the line with PSR as it is having to sell to buy. Surely losing 17m is a hit worth taking when you stand to lose 5-10x that by having your season ended less than half way through it.

Seen a fair bit of Potter chat this morning. Better than Southgate but still a large dollop of ‘meh’.
