Yeah, I remember listening to one of those games on a night shift. Think it was a cup game. Real end to end stuff! Football has definitely become too sanitised now. Mind you, the same can be said of a lot sport. VAR in particular. Has it really improved the game and on field decisions? Not as much as the higher ups were probably hoping. Personally, I have a big dislike for it. Having to wait for a VAR check after a goal has tarnished the game IMO. It probably wouldn't be so bad if the FA were using it correctly. Bruno's sending off last week springs to mind. Then again, I'm just an old cunt who prefers how the game used to be 😂 one ref, two linos and get on with it. same here(I’m from the standing in the stretford end or Utd road era). i don’t like var at all but if it’s what the younger generation wants then so be it and as you say football is just too sanitised now(that’s why I don’t watch much of it these days). "K stand, give us a song!" United road stander here too! Sneak in as a junior with my butty box and steel toe boots on straight from work 🤣🤣

They had xavi and Iniesta to boot. I think this brand of football has nutered an entire generation of players. If you look at someone like Jack Grealish. Regardless of what anyone thinks of him in terms of quality, prior to going to City he was a player that got the ball and wanted to beat people. His performances for England were the same. His playing style now is unrecognisable. I just think a lot of football now is joyless in general. We’re a long way from players like Jay-Jay Okocha in the Premier League. Exactly my point. The game used to be about the players and now it's about fucking systems. Grealish is just another victim of that trend. I understand football is a team sport but 900 passes and 3 shots on goal is not football in my opinion. Its fucking chess. Whenever you turn players into Robots, then it's not surprising when Grealish has a 1v1 that he opts for a square pass because he knows his coach won't tolerate losing the ball. Us supporters go to football to see great skill and memorable moments. I can’t think of many memorable moments recently other than some dick head goal keeper giving the ball to a striker in his own penalty box on regular occasions now. I think you can judge the overall health of the game by looking at the state of Brazilian football. I think we're living in a 1984 version of football now.
