From Sky Sports:
Manchester United are set to hand David Jones the chance to earn a place in the first team squad during the pre-season campaign.
Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be ready to extend the midfielder's contract until 2009, as his present deal expires next year, after his impressive form on loan at Preston and NEC Nijmegen this season.
The former reserve team skipper is keen to prove his worth at United, although NEC would like to bring him back to Holland in another loan arrangement.
If Jones fails to earn a place in the Carling Cup winners' squad for the 2006/2007 campaign, then Ferguson is likely to agree to send the youngster to NEC again to obtain more experience.
The 21-year-old is confident he can do enough to convince Ferguson to hand him an opportunity next term.
An opportunity beckons on the club's tour of South Africa in the summer.
I really rate this guy. I've seen him play a couple of times this season in the Carling Cup and been really impressed with him. I'm looking forward to see whether he can fulfill his potential, because he could be a great player for us.

They love him in the Dutch League. Saw him play for NEC vs Ajax and Feyenoord. Played very well. Was killing it for Preston with his Through-balls and decent vision for Nugent. Can he step up to the top and do it?
