Don’t be fooled by him. This guy to me sprung up out of nowhere, one minute we hear nothing and the next, the press are saying future England captain. Please. For Gerrard to score two goals he wasn’t exactly man marked and if he was, it wasn’t a very good job, especially the second goal. A wonder goal it might have been, but did you see how much room Gerrard had to shoot? A good player he might be and at what, just turned 21 he might just be a big thing in a few years time (though he has to leave West Ham for that) but right now, I’m not convinced he’s good enough for us. He didnt come out of nowhere. He has captained Wimbledon, England U21's and West Ham, recently got in the England squad and is still only 21. To have captained 3 sides at that age says a lot about how good he is.

First of all, I said to me he sprung out of nowhere and secondly, he isn’t good enough for us. Not yet anyway.

To be fair in the FA cup final short of scoring twice Gerard wasn't really in the game, he was restricted to pinging impossible balls into the box and then turning around to the other players with an 'I am steven gerard and I'm 100 times better than all of you, why didn't you get on the end of that outswinging 70 yard ball into touch?' look on his face.

Lol mate, I still wouldn’t mind him being restricted like that in the World Cup final against Brazil, if it meant he then bagged two scorchers like he did in the FA Cup.

Not yet anyway. ok thats fair enough, but shouldn't we get him in now while the price is cheap and before newcastle or spurs snap him up. Cant help feelin all the young english talent ends up with these two and most gets ruined. I think we should get him now, and use him sparingly to allow him to develop. He has massive potential.

Haha they won't man mark the Brazilian set up is alot like the Real Madrid galactico policy, you might score 5 but we'll score 6.

Yeah you’ve got a point Crilly. I have no doubts that he will be something big, but I just don’t think he’s good enough for us yet and we can’t keep buying players and waiting for them to develop, we need players of world class quality or on the boarder line at least. We want our Premiership crown back. But yeah, I wouldn’t want to see an English talent wasted at the likes of Newcastle or Spurs or even Chelsea, just look at Owen, Defoe, Carrick, Parker, SWP, Bridge, all of which could be better at different clubs and I can’t help but feel Joe Cole could blossom even more at a different club, playing week in week out.

Donkedrogba, I’m aware they wouldn’t man mark. I was just setting up an explosive World Cup final in this playground of imaginativeness I call my mind. ;D!

Thats totally true - our first priority next season is gettin OUR trophy back. And again I agree we need two world class established midfielders to have any chance of doing so. (see my threads in transfer section) I too am sick of buying players who are 'for the future' I just feel with Reo-coker the situatiuon is slightly different. I know he's only had one season in the prem with a relatively small club who have probably over achieved this year. I'm not saying he will win us the league, just think if we can get him cheapish say around £5M - doubt it would be less given our recent spending, it would be money very well spent. I suppose it all depends on how much we spend on the other players we bring in, given it seems likely the kitty stands at around £30M. I think with the return of Scholes one major signing and Reo - coker along with keeping key players fit, we might just might give Chelsea a run for their money. Now anyone who reads my posts avidly will know I have been saying I'd like Carrick as the second midfielder, but at £10M i think it reinforces my point on missing the boat on young English talent. And it may be too big a chunk out of the budget this summer. Reo -coker provides the perfect opportunity to strike while the iron is hot. He reminds me very much of Paul Ince when he was at West Ham. And whats more he doesn't seem the sort to get too big for his boots in a few years time.

Ive only really had a look at him in the final after all the hype, watched an interview with him too before the game and was so suprised at the kids level headedness.
Captain of West ham with the likes of Sheringham and Shaka Hislop in the squad who we know have vast experience and the kid takes it all in his stride.
Would rather take Carrick over Reo-Coker but I think the spuds will be looking at around 10 - 15 million and West Ham about 5 -8 Million for Coker.
Both over priced by far but in this day an age young English talent is always over priced when you can go onto the continent and grad somebody just as good for half the price.

I'd love Reo-Coker to join United. He looked amazing in the cup final - it comes down to whether Pardew would allow him to leave for United though really - I think we'd have to pay 10m plus for him, at least.
