My friend tells me that Old Trafford is unlikely ever to be completed, due to the reluctance of the locals to move from the South Stand Area.
Plus, the construction of the railway track and the fact that a better transport service must be created is a real stumbling block for United. Apparently, if the club are to expand, then they have to create a better transport service, as a higher rate of fans will be populating the area. The development is supposed to cost around £90 million.
Does anybody have any clue as what is to happen with the south stand expansion?

We will need a couple more titles and possibly Euro success if were ever to build over the railway and buy that streets houses, not neccessary right now i wouldn't have thought My friend tells me that Old Trafford is unlikely ever to be completed, due to the reluctance of the locals to move from the South Stand Area. They are not looking to increase in the near future., never had any plans to to be fair. I think they have had plans to build over the railway for some time now. I used to work @ OT & heard off several people who'd been there ages that they had the plans when the North Stand was built. Also, I know that they've been trying for a good number of years to buy out the residents of Railway Road, but many are unwilling to move. Whether or not we need to expand that much is an entirely different matter. The fact that the club is struggling for the 1st time in a long time to sell tickets would maybe suggest not.

We're not struggling to sell tickets at the moment, but I agree it will be a risk to draw up a blueprint for the next expansion as we are yet to see just how successful the current extension is and also, how successful our team on the pitch will be.
There has been plans for time to build over the Railway End as May26th1999 said and David Gill confirmed them plans following the game versus Birmingham City this season when the Quadrants were used for the first time.

We're not struggling to sell tickets at the moment, Maybe it's just my cynical mind, but the fact that around 15-20% of Season Ticket holders didn't renew, & that following the ballot for One United members to get a Season Ticket, they then opened the phone lines saying "If you want a Season Ticket, ring up & you can have one", says otherweise to me. The hastily concocted "1 Year Season Ticket" just adds to my belief. & don't let the positive spin put on it by Utd, "to meet demand", blind you to the reality of the situation. Poor onfield performances, increasing ticket prices, an increase in capacity & the whole Glazer situation mean that we are no longer guaranteed to sell out each game @ a time when we can least afford it. On numerous occasions last season there were still tickets available on the day of the game; unheard of for the last decade @ Utd; & this situation will only become more obvious during the course of next season.

This is so true, I could not even get a ticket a few years ago, and now, I got games to almost every match at Old Trafford. It was not like this before. Shows how the demand has fallen. Plus, let's not forget the few thousand fans who went to FC UNITED. That is a large fan base missing from our sections in the stadium.

Oh some people don’t half make me laugh. They moan that they can’t get a ticket, and then they moan when it’s too easy to get a ticket. Bless their little hearts.
Reminds me of when I used to live with my Mother, when it rained she’d ask for the sunshine, when it was sunny, she’s ask for the rain. Oh she didn’t half confuse me at times.

Aslong as Old Trafford doesn't look like Stadio Del Alpi usually does, we're ok. There more games that don't sell out, the more games I'll go to =)

Old Trafford was setting new records for attendance pretty much every game for the last few weeks of the season. FCUM havent had an effect at all as far as I'm concerned. Glad they got weeded out ;D

At last! The economics of supply and demand are working. FACT - If you sell out anything time after time - It's TOO CHEAP FACT - If you don't like the prices , you don't buy FACT - To get profits to buy players, you charge money.
So the simple truth is that by optimising revenue and balancing the price/capacity equation you run the club well. Next step will be ticket price differential. You'll have to pay more for the biggies.
The only trouble with all this is that the theory behind it is cock when you need ALL the profit to refinance. Then you're paying more to stand still.

They've been showing a lot of the season ticket prices for the top four last week or so around Sky Sports news on some reports on the net etc. Fact is our season Ticekts are still the cheapest in the top four, and cheaper than a lot of teams outside the top 4 who often fail to fill 3 quarters of a stadium.. Arsenals cheapest season ticket is more expensive than our most expensive ticket.

Reminds me of when I used to live with my Mother, when it rained she’d ask for the sunshine, when it was sunny, she’s ask for the rain. Oh she didn’t half confuse me at times. I don't know if that was aimed @ me but if it was, I wasn't complaining about ticket availability. I've been a Season Ticket holder for the last decade & a half so never had any problems getting tickets. The point I was trying to make was that there is no point spending upward of £90million on expanding the capacity to c. 90,000 when we can't sell out the ground as it is. Maybe when Glazer fuck's off or dies, we have another sustained period of dominance, a higher demand for tickets is back & the club is financially secure, we could consider such plans, but not before hand. Ticket prices are, as you say, competitive within the Prem. I was pointing to the fact that over recent seasons, tickets @ Utd have consistently gone up by £1 per match. This season, mine went up by £4 per match & wasn't the steepest riser (?I think they were about £8 per match?). Many people felt aggrieved by this & didn't renew, hence the surplus of STs. Also, the fact that Chelsea & Arsenal are London clubs, & we're a Manchester club makes a difference. Try buying an identical sized house close to each stadium. I believe there may be a slight discrepancy in valuations... ;D
