Whilst digging to find out about Ricardo (what did happen to him?) I came across this link going back a couple of years The link seems to be broken but if you type it in or do a search on Ricardo Lopez Goalkeeper it comes up OK. observer.guardian.co.uk/osm/story/0,6903,1337035,00.html Clearly we need another keeper because of our excellent track record of buying keepers. And just in case someone thinks I'm being pessimistic or having a go at SAF, this is not just a recent problem. We've probably only had 4 or so decent keepers in the last 50 years and theyre nearly all bought in. Is it that Manchester is not a good breeding ground? Or that the better keepers think it's better for them to play behind a creaking light blue defence. ( this does not include the present encumbrant!!!!!!!!!!!)

He won't be cheap but if Arsenal can afford to bid on him then so should we, maybe Buffon is the ONE Fergies keeping his eye on and the Kusack bid with Robbo is two old mates making a smoke screen We need buffon..28 years of age, going cheap....cannot possibly turn it down

well, talking about goal keepers. i c that kameni is 1 of the top 3 goalies in the world after buffon and casillas. i heard that buffon is staying in italy and shall probably join ac milan.

AC's done with Dida? Heck, I'd much rather have Buffon than Dida if I were AC too. No doubt that Buffon would be great to have at United but since VDS still has a year or two left in him I doubt we'll go for Buffon just yet...though I'd be thrilled if he came. It's an interesting point about keepers always being bought rather than coming through the ranks, let's see if Foster proves this statistic wrong.

Goalkeepers are possibly judged by what they do in the 1st team and therefore if they don't get the chances then they are never recognised. We buy from other clubs keepers whom are usually 1st teamers? Possibly could be the reason young keepers never come through the ranks at big clubs becuase the big clubs fear the cost of mistakes and therefore keepers make their misatkes are smaller clubs before they become consistant. Consistant keepers are what big clubs require and then buy them when they are ready.............possibly well, talking about goal keepers. i c that kameni is 1 of the top 3 goalies in the world after buffon and casillas. i heard that buffon is staying in italy and shall probably join ac milan. Robson taking the piss with his keeper though. Fergie, tell him we're buying the lad, and there's no two ways about it!
I'm happy enough with VDS for the time being.

Van Der Sar is a great keeper, but he's gettin up there a bit now. We should have signed him back in 2001, ai.

I do realise that people want Buffon because he is a brilliant keeper, but we really cannot afford it. Between signing a striker and some decent midfielders we cannot afford to sign another high wage player, and seeing as a goalie really isn't our priority at the moment. Van Der Sar is good for another two years, after that I think Foster might be ready to take over. If not, we can always get a goalie next season or the season after.

If VDS is injured against Fulham openign game and out for 6 months then what would we do? I do realise that people want Buffon because he is a brilliant keeper, but we really cannot afford it. Recall Foster if he's going a on loan, I don't mind signing someone like the West Brom goalie, we can afford that. BUffon we cannot afford.
