Our defence was shocking at times, Rio and his lack of concentration. I said in an earlier post that it wouldn’t be a walk over like last time, and a walk over it wasn’t. Celtic might have been ‘lucky’, but it happens to the best of us and thankfully Ole was there for the tap in to give us the win. Saha played terrifically compared to the Spurs game. Carrick was very sloppy on more than a few occasions, but that can be expected I guess whilst he’s trying to gel with the others.
I was looking forward to a fully fit starting eleven against Arsenal, but now that isn’t to be the case. I’ll be wishing Giggs the speediest of recoveries because Richardson’s form has been terrible of late.

We created tons and tons of chances and could have scored 5 or 6, but obviously we didn't. The defence was terrible I agree but for all of Rio's mistakes, I still feel more comfortable with him than Brown. Once Heinze and Vidic come back, we can get rid of Silvestre and Brown. Ferdinand and Vidic will be very good together and Brown will provide excellent cover. As for Giggs, he is not the youngest and I always expected him to get injured, especially at the pace he plays, he is always going to pull something. We should be careful with him and not play him every game, although having said that, we are not nearly the same team with him and you can't really rest him against the "weak" teams as resting players last year didn't do us any favours. So yeah, I have no solution to that.

The radio seem to think Rooney was completely short of fitness after missing 5 games (including internationals), didn't see much of the game myself When you think we missed Park, and will do for the next 3 months, and Ronnie wasn't there due to suspension, there is much more to come. About the Park injury... there's another long injury near the start of the season, with the form Richardson is on, lets hope Giggs stays fit. Rooney was running around like a mad man, especially at first, he was struggling when he went off though and it was a concern whether he was injured or not, Sir Alex has THANKFULLY said he will be back for the Arsenal match. Sadly Giggs won't be Ok so literally 2 minutes after i typed that, Fergie says he's out for 3 weeks.. Dammit! This is Richardson's chance with Giggs out for 3 weeks, lets hope he takes the chance and doesn't take his place for granted. Hopefully Vidic will start to push Rio and Wes out of these mistakes by pressuring for his place when he's fit in the near future.

The 2 centre backs were poor, Brown has got to be the dopiest centre half around, ferdinand would do well in the gay village team hes that soft, I really cannot believe after last season they can come out and perform like that on the first european night. The balance is all wrong with them two, we need a bit of steel there, a steve bruce. You can never feel comfortable you are always expecting one or the other to drop a clanger

It wasn't the greatest night for United, we lost two players to injury for a considerable length of time (both from the same/similar positions which compounds the problem) and our defence looks a bit wobbly at the moment with Ferdinand deteriorating from his less then impressive performance at weekend and Brown seemingly following suit, I hope they sort themselves out for the weekend.
We face having a midfield containing Scholes, Carrick and Richardson against Arsenal, all of whom have played little football so far and may suffer fitness wise. Arsenal on the other hand had a relatively easy game against 10 men so will be fresh, though they did concede against them too.
It's probably not as bad as I've made out seen as how we did win and created a lot of chances that on another day could have led to 5 or 6 goals but it wasn't the type of preperation we needed for sunday.
I don't mean to sound so negative but i just feel a bit frustrated about how things went and needed to vent a bit, I'll be ok after we stuff le arse.

We're in the middle of 3 tough games now, and winning two of them so far is great, the lads deserve a rest after they win the L'Arse game.

Ferdinand and Brown were EXTREMELY dissappointing tonite! It mite have been the worst display from those two since the loss @ Boro/Lille/Benfica last season. But Saha looks great with only one poor shot. 4-5 good shots/headers

Rio is off at the moment. He needs to pull his finger out. Surprised we had to fight as hard as we did for tonights result. If we'd conceded a penalty like that, I would have been pissed off. The keeper didnt go for the ball, but he didnt make enough contact for it to be a penalty either. Great to see Louis score 2 CL goals, the first of many. And brilliant to see Ole score another CL goal. Already, we've scored the amount of goals we did in the European Cup last season. Where was Rooney? And is Fergie about to prove us all wrong about Fletcher, who has been really good all season?

Rooney just needs a little more game time hopefully he got what he needed for the A'nal game(that's next right?) but wow Saha was brilliant only thing that kept him away from that hattrick was Kuroc or something can't remember his name he was great despite getting 3 goals. Lehman will be shitting his pants when Saha comes running at him ;D

Just got back home, had to post about this right now because Ole is just...arhh I love the man as much as a straight man can! Travelling up to the ground I hear that Park is out for three months. Shit! Never mind Giggs is on form I think to myself. 1-0 down he goes flying through brought down by the keeper and yes a penalty let's put it away and win this. But SHIT! Giggs is out too, now I find out it's a hamstring and three weeks out. Bollocks! Saha got his first brace in the CL, Rooney & Scholes looked ring rusty, Fletcher played well, we missed Ronaldo's width, our defence was shocking at times and I never got the rout I expected. One thing I did get though was Ole scoring in front of the Strettie in the CL...OMG!..scenes of jubilation. It was a dream to witness that goal...true legend. He even tripped the wank of a referee up too...thanks Ole!!! Apart from some dickhead Celtic fans starting trouble in the ground, North Stand Tier 3..should have threw the bastard off the tier, I loved the match. Two of them sitting behind me were given hell I was in their face good and proper, the cunts! Some got sent out for fighting cue chants of CHEEEEERIO CHEEEEERIO CHEEEEERIO, all on my own nevertheless. ;D What else was excellent was before they even got a chance to sing YNWA near the end nearly every Red turned and chanted YSB at the cunts....wheeeeeeey! FOLLOW FOLLOW FOLLOW COS UNITED ARE GOING TO GLASGOW THEY'LL BE THOUSANDS OF REDS WE'LL BE PISSED OUT OUR HEADS COS UNITED ARE GOING TO GLASGOW! #unitedbanner#

I was really hoping for a stronger performance from the players because it's the first CL match at home and there's a lot to prove. I don't know if they perhaps were taking Celtic for granted but the Bhoys came to play and at times it looked like we didn't, especially defensively. The injuries aren't going to help us because we didn't need to lose our two good wingers....Giggsy has been doing so well too...a real shame. We can't expect to face teams like Lyon with the kind of defensive display we showed today. Saha did well and eventually Rooney got into the match but I think we have our work cut out for us and it's not going to be easy by a long shot. Rio better wake up and not think he can bring that performance against ARSEnal....they might be off to a bad start but we can't let them make this the match they start scoring.

Good result, in terms of the 3 points. I'm a bit worried bout the defense. Its very unfortunate that giggsy is out for 3 weaks thats a rather harsh blow, but park being out makes it worse. Whats the situation with Hienze and Smith? Theyve kept saying smith will play and he hasnt for these past 2 matches. Anyway im mixed on how we performed tonight, it wasnt to pleasing to see the opposition attack so freely and push us back at times. But, we showed our potential in attack. It was a great performance by saha, that side volley would've been nice. I think we easily should'v ended with 4 to 5 goals after that clear chance we had when rooney went on the attack with fletcher on the side. Its so rediculous how the Scottish supporters are reacting to the match, they say they outsang us and that they only sang, when clearly u could hear ManUtd songs throughout the match. Should be an interesting match at parkhead. groups.myspace.com/playersfc

I feel that I really have to say something to all the people on this thread who are moaning about last nights performance.
Bearing in mind the injuries that we have and the team that was put out last night - I thought it was an excellent result. There are alot of people who badly underestimated Celtic who proved that they are a decent side with some nice passing football last night.
However - Putting all that aside - We created enough clear cut chances to win 5 games last night and if Rooney had been match-fit and Ronaldo not suspended we would have absolutely annihilated Celtic.
3 points are in the bag - and we have started the Season with 5 wins - Get behind your team and stay positive - Not every game can be a rout
