Still playing like shit, Scholes set the precedent with that misplaced pass in the first few minutes and then everyone else decided to join in, really lucky that they made that mistake and Ronnie was able to capitalise 'cos we didn't look like creating anything ourselves and we'll have to play a hell of a lot better against Roma in the week.
At least the results are still coming but our general play is starting to become a bit worrying, hopefully it'll change sooner rather than later.

Ron: Fletch can't tie a tie?! Roo: That bloke touches my tie - I'll flatten him

First impressions before I start responding to other people's reactions.
Ron - you little beauty - get in! Ok - not the most profound response but genuine.
Giggs - glad he was playing on the wing - if he'd done that in the middle he'd have really pissed me off, as it was I'll just label it as not his day.
But then it wasn't really anyone's day was it. Roo looked frustrated. Tevez looked lost - but was trying so hard I'll forgive him for now. Saha (even once he came on) looked like he wasn't on the same team.
Which brings us back to the midfield - I've got nothing positive to say about Carrick and Scholes except Carrick seemed to lose the ball less often, and both of them were better in the second half.
And - whoever told Ron to pay more attention to his defensive duties (my money's on some website somewhere!) - please tell him to forget it. All Ron coming back does is let the opposition push up. When Ron stays up front, they're too scared to do that. Ron always covered his fullback when the fullback went forward - this doubling up thing (especially in the League) is just pointless.
And of course - I hope whatever happened to VdS isn't serious.

I've been delighted with Wes Brown's performances lately, but I cant wait for Neville to come back and we restore some leadership at the back again. Horrific defending at times.
I was expecting us to tear them apart, but I'm just relieved we picked up the three points.
I admit I'm not beaming with confidence as we go into the game against Roma, if we defend like we did today, we'll have a long hard night.
I'm not here to rant. 3 points is 3 points. Glory Glory.

it was a good game, open and a end to end game.
i think we really need gary neville on the right side now. brown does well, but with ronaldo on the same flank it doesnt seem to work, i mean they can work together and all, but at times you saw ronaldo not working home to help brown and time and time we saw the right side was vulnerable. and if neville is there he puts in the influence and talks when a player needs a talking or two.
but on the other hand super goal from ronaldo. real unlucky with the Van Der Sar injury, but i really hope and do think TK will do it on tuesday against roma. we have a real good back four and it will help TK alot.

it was far from good performance, birmingham have more shots on goal that we do lot of wrong passes by scholes and carrick first half was bad but in second thanks to that goal we were better and get the click
Mc Scheffrey gives lot of problems to wes brown

If I'm honest I thought today's game was a tad boring at times and Birmingham were unlucky not to score. Another 1-0 win but I guess the win is the most important thing. I hope Van Der Sar isn't too badly injured, TK had me worried slightly with the save from Rio's deflection. I think we really need to step it up a gear and get back that spark that's missing if we're to do well in the Champions League this season.

Fergie tells all:
Boss: Reds roll on United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with the win at St. Andrews but quick to praise Steve Bruce's Birmingham City.
"I think we're getting towards top gear," the boss told Setanta Sports. "You could see signs of that today. Some of the movement up front was very good. Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez are big threats for all our opponents, and the forward line is looking much better now.
"I actually thought Birmingham were by far the better team in the first half, although we did carve out some good chances for ourselves. They played very well and you have to give them full credit. I would say it was the hardest game of the season so far."
Sir Alex later told MUTV he was relieved to keep Birmingham at bay in the early stages and said Bruce's Blues had unsettled his players with their physical attributes.
"They were very aggressive, very quick about the pitch," he said. "They were a real handful for us. Even at 1-0 we were just praying to get through the match. Late on, they kept pumping balls into the box but we coped with that well. They're a big side, very athletic, and we had to be on our toes in the second half. It's a good result for us, a very good result.
"We only scored once but we were away from home and you have to give Birmingham credit. Ronaldo's goal might have come from a mistake by one of their players but his composure in beating the mean, beating the goalkeeper and then putting it into the net was excellent. He was sensational today. The boy is so good it's frightening. His capabilities are unending."

A win is a win. It does not have to be pretty. Only concern for me is the lack of form of Giggs. I was surprised when SAF replaced Giggs with Saha. How about Saha leading the line against Roma and Tevez,Rooney, Ronaldo playing behind and interchanging all the time - frightening. Carrick and Scholes are getting in each others way and I cant wait for Hargreaves to get fit and back in the team. Scholes and Carrick can fight for one position as far as im concerned.

great win for us.. i know its only 1-0 but 3 points are what we needed and thats what we got.. been ages since we conceded in the league and although scoring is a problem that will come with time without doubt!
If someone said to us after the city game wel win the next 4 with clean sheets we wudda bit their hand off! the most important thing is that we won and arent falling behind arsenal. sneaking tough away games 1-0 is what wins you league titles.

something i didnt add before, they were talking about the marcus hannemhan save and that was quality, but the TK save was out of this world, and if im being honest it ranks with one of the best ive seen, brilliant shot stopper TK is he just needs to work on the crosses

Anyone see when Vidic just shoved that defender over in the box lol thought it was great. Deffinetly not our best performance, and a big step down from the game last week to chelsea, but, were still getting the right result. Keep this up and we'll have least goals conceded for the year lol, even though they looked quite shaky in defence today.

Yup, not exactly an amazing game, but the points are here. Great save by TK, definitely, and the goal by Ronnie. We still have plenty to improve, especially if we want to do sth in CL this season. We've had luck so far in the Premiership by winning with not so grand performance. But CL is sth else and we still have to improve. I hope VDS recovers soon! United!!!

We scored a goal and got all three points, whilst keeping a clean sheet. All that matters at this point. We need to shape up in terms of playing ability, but points are more important than performance, and we got the points.
However frustrating it is to watch.

United have played 4 teams out of the top 8 and are 2nd in the table having played 8 games, that's a good start for me and the fact that there will be long periods without playing the form teams for a while is encouraging and should help the players to go on a bit of a run
Birmingham are young, athletic and a very tall team, every time United tried to control the game yesterday, the ball was hit about 40 yards down the pitch to Jerome, which i thought highlighted the amount of times United gave away the ball.
Now, it was that kind of game last season, similar to the West Ham game, when a lot of people were saying we needed Hargreaves and allow me to be the first to say we missed him yesterday. Scholes and Carrick only ever had a grip on that game for the first 10 minutes, we needed a battler.
