Whoever we sign this summer its going to be crucial. Sad to say its probably going to be the last chance for certain members of the squad to get the title back (Neville, Giggs, Scholes, Solskjaer - should he return)
We cannot afford to buy any more squad players this summer, 3 years of 'rebuilding' is too long, we need the the title back next season otherwise we could be waiting a long long time.
The players who come in have GOT to be better than the current players, there is no point in adding squad players when the first eleven is not as good as chelseas.

yeah, i can see where ya comin from, but i disagree with the fact our first 11 isnt as good as chelsea's, i think two young midfielders, one goalscoring and one defencive, could see us become a force again, i feel we lack in depth at the moment where chelsea have 2 or 3 match winners on there bench aswell as the 4 or 5 they already have ont he pitch, but hey, we all dont have a russian billionairre do we?

What I'd like to see is a good mix of players which are coming up through United's youth system in addition to new signings because we're seeing less and less of that nowadays. Rossi is certainly one to watch and I hope he does well next season.

yer, rossi is going to be a huge tallent, but i would have liked to have seen him out on loan this season, to a prem or championship side, cos experience at any level is good for a kid under 20

I sincerely hope Rossi gets a decent chance next year, he has been immense for the reserves. I agree on the two young midfielders point - its exactly what is needed, in other areas we are as strong as chelsea, or at least strong enough to compete with them.

Two top drawer central midfielders, and a kick up the arse of most of the other players.
Who'll we sign though, if we sign anybody (i mean it was obvious to everybody at the start of last season that we needed a central midfielder and yet managed not to sign one) i haven't a clue. Two all rounders in midfield? a defensive one and an attack minded one? All i know is we cannot have a winger and a defender in midfield and expect to challenge next season.
Rossi needs to be brought in to the first team squad now.

yer i agree totally, rossi to be given a chance next season, even if he gets sub appearances, aslong as hes getting the xperience, its onlt good for the future
and do we go for two provent top quality cm in the prem e.g K.nolan and n-r-c, or do we opt for two unproven top europian cm's?

Rossi needs to be brought in to the first team squad now. You've hit the nail bang on the head there! O'shea is being made to look a very poor player in this role, 2 years ago "johnny went marching down the wing" - now people want him sold - he had massive potential as a quality squad player - but in defensive positions, now I doubt he will ever rediscover the form he showed when he first came into the side. Alan Smith should also be used as Striker, he played quite well in the middle and his commitment was second to none. However he just doesn't have the passing skills needed for a central mid!

yeh, if we have any realistic ambitions to actually win something significant next season, we;re gonna have to bring in defensive and attacking mids. i would like to see van der vaart and gattusso be brought in. but thats just wishfull thinking.

Van Der Vaart would be a great signing. I always feel that Gattusso is pretty overrated but thats just me...

Personally I like Gattusso, but I would have slight concerns over his age at 29, he may have a limited time left, not all players can keep going to 34,35 etc. Also teams like AC Milan don't sell players off cheaply without good reason, if he is on the way out surely they must have a replacement lined up? Isn't this who we should be monitoring? However if the rumours are right about his £5M price tag, then I'd say get him, even two seasons out of him would do me at that price.
As for Van Der Vaart, from what I've seen of him he has got potential, but seems a bit light weight for a central role, would certainly bring him in though if the price was fair, say, no more than £7M.

agreed. from watching vdv he only gets better, i mean in attack hes great, and thats what we need, we need a cm thats not afraid to take shots from outside the box when neccessary, and just to simply playmake. ya gattuso's age is a problem but regardless i'd still try to get him, if the price was reasonable.

If you're looking for an attacking midfielder then look no futher than Riquelme. Now I know that everyone thought Veron was a flop (personally though I miss him) but Riquelme is different class no? He's a dead ball specialist, maybe not so much with the penalties though, lol. I think he'd be superb as we have not had a playmaker with true flair for so long.

I was viewing this page a few days ago before a lot of these posts were here and was screaming 'Riquelme'. Riquelme is 110% the answer to Paul Scholes being out of action. Riquelme just about dominates every Midfield he plays against with his shrewd style and usually does it in a team with limited attacking options. His style of play suits United perfectly, he'd fit right in and would probably be the step-up in Europe that United missed this season. Don't worry about that Penalty miss, his pens are usually great, the plus from that is, he probably now hates Arsenal, haha.
Gattuso's age is fine. He has atleast another 5 years in him. United need success NOW. Fergie needs to stop 'looking to the future' and needs to look for players for NOW. Kevin Nolan wouldn't be a bad purchase at all, great midfielder, him or Gattuso would work nicely in the middle with Riquelme.
As for van der Vaart, I don't rate him that highly in the Middle, especially in the big games. He's just not solid enough, doesn't take the game by the scruff of the neck enough. Proof of this was Euro2004. Brilliant on the Left, though.
Vogel isn't getting games @ Milan, he's a very dominant central midfielder who is being kept out of the team by the overrated Pirlo. Vogel would fit in nicely.
