If we are dealing in facts and not fantasy, we have to accept that to get world class players, we have to pay accordingly. Riquelme for £12 million? It's a joke! The guy is in line for being the best on display at the World Cup. We might just blag a defensive midfielder for a moderate fee (doubt it though), but with someone who will get you another 10 points a season, like Riquelme could, the fee is more likely to be around £30 million.
As the Glazers seem to have no problems getting loans, the onus is on them to fund deals. All these transfer ruses are a waste of time. And a major wind-up for some of us fans! We have to spend big in terms of fees and wages. Otherwise we won't be a top 4 - rated European club, which should be within our grasp, esp as Italian football has it's crisis to deal with.

Riquelmé has a release clause of £8m, his price cannot go any higher. The only thing that could stop us if he demanded ludicrous wages and another club could give him what we couldn't. He has already stated his desire to play under Fergie, with Rooney & Ronaldo at Old Trafford. Manchester United are THE only club who could offer him that.

The things which will affect us most are the prices other clubs have been paying for players such as Andy johnson, absolute bollocks but Simon Jordan gets him out for 8 mil- he must have a smile on his face.. Then there is Shevschenko-30 mil and the rest.. if we want Torres who will quickly be branded a world class player during this world cup should he maintain these performances, hes got 7 years on sheva and because Chelsea payed 30 mil for Sheva, we have to pay more for Torres if Sheva doesn't look like he's worth more than Torres. This was always going to happen during the world cup, its the only realistic thing that can happen aside from a mental game showing interest in other players as a ploy to get people to drop prices.... ..and its exactly why we should have brought pre world cup, but now its too late i think thats the point you were trying to make the prices for the 'world class' players supposudly coming will be bigger than previously quoted. But Not for Riquelme, firstly not at that age and secondly not from that club as they have neither the funds to turn down bids of over 10 million nor Champions league football to fund his wages. Carrick on the other hand- his price goes down all the time hes not playing internationally as his contract ticks and others shine, but not a 'world class' signing.

I don't for a second believe that Riquelme's release clause is anything like £8 million. Even average players in Spain have release clauses two to three times greater than that as general policy.

It is £8m...it was on SkySports news during the CL...when everyone first started raving on about him.

I think that Fergie has been quite clever and actually wrapped up a couple of signings, but the countries just don't want it revealed as it might mess up their World Cup plans.
We are definitely going to sign players as it is, lets just hope they are decent.

It looks set that we will sign Torres and his club arent in a position to turn down 25 million and they dont have Champions League money to make his salary what he deserves, plus he wants to leave, he said he loves the club etc but to further his career he must leave and his manager understands, Chelski went too early and bought Sheva, we played it easy and look set for Torres, i know which id rather have....

Hopefully Riquelme and Mascherano. They make the perfect combo.
Should Ruud leave, then Torres is my choice.

i would like to see Cambiasso of argentina, good goal against S&M and along with riquelme, could do great harm. i think we could get both of them for around 20m

I think Requelme and Torres are pretty realistic targets, Requelme did have a release of 8MIL i remember something like that being said but i'm sure he signed a new contract last year so that has more than likley have increased. Torres i'm looking forward to as i'm sure RVN is gone, especially now there are so many clubs looking for him. I would still like to throw a "DREAM" buy in to the mix though, it would'nt be the same if we didnt drool over the idea of sertain players playing in the red of united!!! So here is a couple..1. Messi:- What a talent, would love to see him play for united but unfortunatly doubt that will ever happen, 2. Deco:- Again a man with outstanding talent but very unlikley to leave Barca unless its Chelski with 50 Mil, 3. KAKA:- Well what can i say .... prob THE BEST DAMN ATTACKING MIDFIELDER in the WORLD!!!! PERIOD! Anywho i'm always up for a debate so what you guys think?
