From Football365:
Newcastle striker Michael Owen is confident he will be fit for the World Cup finals despite a scare on his return from injury.
The 26-year-old felt discomfort in the metatarsal he fractured in December after his comeback against Birmingham. However, after receiving assurances from specialists and speaking to fellow victims, he is hopeful of playing some part in Sunday's final Barclays Premiership game against Chelsea.
"That's a big relief," he told the Times. "I have heard from other players who have had the same injury and they have told me it is totally normal to feel this pain when you first come back. Provided it subsides over the next few days, I would hope to be involved against Chelsea on Sunday."
He added: "There is no reason to think I should have any problems being right for the World Cup."

Half the squad is injured or suffering depression at the moment. It's a bugger about Rooney's injury- half of me wants him not to go if it means jeopardising united's start, the other half wants to see him at the world cup.

All these metatarsal injuries are because of the new boots - their too soft, my mate nearly broke my foot when i was wearing a pair of those nike ones ruud and henry wear. They give no protection to the top of the foot at all!

I personally believe Rooney will be back in time and will be able to take part in the world cup, presuming we can do the business in the early stages.
And with the likes of Owen, fat Frankie, Gerrard, Beckham, Rio, Terry, Cole, etc on our team sheet. We should be ok.
