so today steve mcclaren has today been named the england boss. it has now transpired that he wasnt even the fa's second choice, they went for wenger as well as scolari. i personally think its a decision that should have been expected cos the fa has done what it always does, its taken the easy option, the more dangerous option was to give it to sam allardyce, who would have ruffled feathers but would have got england playing how england should play. that said i am pleased for macca and dont think he'll let anyone down, plus its always good to see an old red do well. what are every one elses views?

Step backwards ,a good number 2 .But pleased O´Neil or Hiddink didnt get the job both would of done the business but i would want either one to suceed SAF..I dont think it matters too much who managers England the result is normally the same..

I hope Steve does well, aside from my feelings of wanting England to progess... I always keep an eye on managers who have been close to United, Kidd, Bruce, Hughes, Robson... and so I hope McClaren proves his worth for England.

can i just ask, what is the fucking big deal about martin o'neil, what has the man actually done that makes him stand out from the crowd?..... he won the league cup with leicester and took them into europe fair play, but its no more remarkable than what mcclaren has done at boro or what allardyce and curbishley have done at their clubs, christ i think ronnie moore getting rotherham into the championship was a bigger acheivement! now i know o'neil won a lot at celtic, well i should fucking hope he did considering for most of his tenure rangers were distinctly average and there is no one other than rangers to challenge in scotland. i mean strachan has gone to celtic and won silverware he just couldnt cut it in the premiership. if he goes to newcastle and wins silverware then ok i'll admit hes good but i just dont think hes as good as people say. and the suggestion he could get the united job one day is just laughable, now i know fergie only had experience of scotland when he came south but he had done 2 things remarkable, he broke the old firm grip on scottish football and won the cup winners cup. o'neil has consistently flopped in europe. people say his man management skills are great, well anyone can keep second rate players happy, top managers keep difficult players happy, ie the way fergie controlled eric. now i may be mistaken but i beleive oneil had collymore at leicester and couldnt control him, a top man manager would have! so what exactly is the big deal please someone tell me what he has that sets him apart!

To be honest, I'd rather Sven be kept on than Macca.
He did well for my beloved Derby County all those years ago, but that was about his level at managment, he is in no way shape or form England quality.
The two big guys, Phil and Sam should have been ahead of him.
You all know the story though, Sam ruled himself out by not promising to keep that fairy Beckham as captain.
