Hi NedKelly
Surely not an Antipodean here!!!
Anyway, as I said yesterday, Sven has really not got a clue! Four quality midfielders who fit together as well Alan Green and Utd. No doubt each is superb at their clubs where presumably their managers know what their strengths are and where to play them .... but Sven - "I pick the best players -why haven't I got a good team" doesn't.
Beckham: a right winger who can't dribble, poorish tackler but the best dead ball kicker and crosser for years.
Lampard; attacking midfielder -likes to come late ( cos he can't think that quick!) but scores masses of goals from 30yds out and in the 6 yard box
Gerrard; (This hurts) probably best midfielder around but needs to know his role. For all the hype, can go to sleep for long periods and his shots are as likely to go over the first tier as in. Neverthe less, much more complete; tackles well, passes well and scores.
Cole; could be anywhere or anything but plays reasonably well on the left - runs miles(when he wants to) and has undoubted class.
So what have we got. Four attack minded midfielders. one only who can tackle well, two who prefer the right side, nobody who can control central midfield, Wow, what a balance.
Ned suggested playing three and Gerrard "forward", and that I think is Sven's solution to the Rooney problem, but it takes away the only decent tackler too far forward. I think we may have to play like that with a defender playing in front of the back four because the Swedish prat has not in four years done anything positive towards building a "team" or a formation. His sole aim in life, well his second one really, has been to try to get a good job next and just prey he doesn't come to OT.
I'm so discouraged by the ineptitude that I've booked to work on the Trinidad match.
