What is the solution?
A couple of weeks ago some whinging Bayern bastard came out saying that his club and Chelsea brought in around the same amount of money last season. Bayern made a profit, and Chelsea made losses of £140 mill. He was going on about it being unfair, bla bla bla.
So what is the solution? The whole of Europe is NOT going to do a wage cap, and so we cant do it in England because then none of the big stars will join us.
So what do you reckon? You can only spend a certain % of the money your club brings in. Or even, you can only spend the equivalent of 100% of the money your club actually made that year. Chelsea brought in £20 odd mill last season, as did Bayern, and so neither team can spend more than that? What do you reckon? Any other ideas?

I don’t think there will ever be a solution and it’s only going to get worse. We’ve heard it all before ‘’ players get paid way more than Doctors/Nurses, people who save your life and all’s footballers do is kick a ball, it isn’t fair ‘’ well perhaps it isn’t, but who can actually stop it all happening? Is there a top dog sat somewhere who can decide whether or not club A or club B spends such amount? Can the FA jump in, etc? Or does it all boil down to, we can spend as much as we like, it’s our club?
Like you said Scott, wage caps won’t work, perhaps back in the day yeah, but not in today’s world. Perhaps no more than 25 – 30 million a year, but then some people might argue the fact that, well they earn the money, so why can’t they spend it?
So I say clubs can only spend the amount they’ve made for that year.

Yeh exactly, as I said, all teams can spend 100% of the money they bring in. So the teams who earn more money can spend more money.

I think it should be regardless of the club's income the highest wage offered to a player should be restricted to £75,000 or the equivalent of that.

But MUFCadz, I dont think theres any way that FIFA can bring that it. It has to be a cap over the whole world, and that just cannot happen. Because how do they decide how much it is? Just like with businesses, they couldnt impose a world wide cap on how much businesses could pay their employees. But businesses are limitted to how much they can spend dependant on how much they bring in.

Businesses will never stop growing, money won’t ever stop being circulated and reproduced for fat cats. You’re more likely to see America melt down what weapons they have and declare peace on the world.

True. I didn't look at it that way. I agree though something needs to be done to stop Chelsea and to some extent the other big clubs to. Because, unlimited wages means they can tap anyone up easily by quoting a wage and people like Ashley Cole jump at the opportunity. It's ridiculous, and it's something which needs fixing because there will be a monopoly developing and to some extent it's happened already!

It's not too different in other sports either...here in the states I'm always appalled by news that almost every signing for big teams (especially in basketball and baseball) is a record signing of some ridiculous amount of money. There's been talks of salary caps and other ways of trying to prevent this absurdity but in essence it is a capitalist system trying to prevent the same principals it espouses. Players that perform well want to be paid more money no different than any employee wants to make more money if he feels he's more of an asset to the company. Perhaps we'll reach a "bubble" where clubs just won't be able to afford these absurd amounts and they just won't pay those amounts for players and focus more on development of their youth systems. There are only so many Abramovichs in the world anyway, so what others there are don't start buying prem teams...

Chelsea's situation is a one off never to be repeated, I doubt it can last more than a decade and tbh there isn't really anything anyone can do.
In the long run i believe Chelsea's spending power will result in the premiership becoming the best in the world as teams will improve. United in the mid 90s had it more or less their own way, and they didn't really need to up the standard as Arsenal or another team may have the odd good season but they couldn't keep it going.
I honestly believe this United squad will be the best ever in a few years, the talent developing is exceptional, and all we lack is a couple of world class players and a couple of years.

What would happen if your team made a loss the previous season? And you need to spend to ensure your recouperate your losses for that season As mentioned in a previous post, Abromavich is almost certainly a one off in the game so it's just something we have to live with, in a way Im happy for Chelsea to be bringing in all the stars of the game and it also gives the rest the added incentive for they know how difficult it is to match them for money but as quite a few teams proved last season you can be more than a match on the pitch

Abramovich has said he eventually wants Chelsea to run on itself without his constant stream of cash covering their losses every year. The League have said they can't investigate the possibility that spending huge amounts of money wins football and is taking over the league with Chelsea at the top UNTIL Chelsea win the league 4 years on the trott. They have a minimum of 2 years to find a solution to this just incase Chelsea do keep on winning, and as the league said themselves, their main rivals are also developing quality squads, its making the whole league step up to the pace and compete. So it looks like we have to wait and see.. Maybe Abramovich will be bored and say goodbye in a year or 2, then Chelsea are on the downfall big time, maybe there will be injuries, fallouts, the manager could be sacked, players unhappy. Others won't want to join them with the huge size of the squad they have such as 15 midfielders.... there are so many things which could go wrong and they have to be given the opportunity to go wrong before anything is done.
