Just saw this movie last night not knowing much about it. First off it was very, very good. The only set back is that it was all in Spanish, which I don't mind much but some of people don't like subtitles. "El Laberinto del Fauno", or Pan's Laybrinth in the english version, is the story of a young girl who travels with her pregnant mother to live with her mother's new husband in a rural area up North in Spain, 1944, after Franco's victory. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own. It's a very good movie, very different. It's kind of hard to explain but if you want to watch something different than this is definetly it.

Pan's Labyrinth was easily the best film I saw last year, it was gritty and it told (albeit in passing) the story of the spanish revolutionary war very well, and it proved an excellent (if a little violent) backdrop to this story.
-SPOILER-
I was left at the end wondering whether it had been real or a delusion made up by the imagination of a child attempting to escape a reality she couldn't come to terms with. Excellent film.

I love films that leave u thinking, nothing is worse than going to the cinema or watching a DVD having everything spoon fed to you and spending an hour and a half not having to pay attention or think cos it's all given to you, which is why eastern cinema is so ground breaking and I love it so...
Pan Labyrinth was an excellent film, I defy anyone to name a 2006 film better
