I miss seeing a first team striker bring the ball down like that.
Anyone who wants to know why we're really not challenging for the league this year - there's a hint (and it ain't a fickle defence).

Memory lane John. RVP when he first arrived, RVN in his prime. As I said, memories. Still a brilliant ball by Jones though.

Interview with Ben Pearson from the United site:
----------------------------------------------------------
What is your favourite part of training? Probably small-sided games, little five-a-sides and six-a-sides. They are more about winning. I like to win and there is a lot of scoring goals and defending so I enjoy that.
If you were picking an ideal five-a-side team at United, who would be in it alongside you?
David De Gea in net. You can't really complain about that, he's been incredible this year and, as a five-a-side keeper, you couldn't ask for much better. Probably Phil Jones – he's aggressive and has got pace. Michael Carrick in there alongside me to calm things down as his passing is unbelievable. I'd probably have Wayne Rooney up top and, if I wasn't in it, James Wilson for a bit of pace. I think those two as a combination could be unstoppable really.
There has been a debate over who is the fastest United player. Who is the sprint king?
Angel Di Maria has got to be up there but I think it's underestimated how fast Wilson is, with the ball as well. Without the ball, maybe Di Maria is a bit quicker or Antonio Valencia but, with the ball, I can't see anyone being faster than Wilson.
Are you working on anything in the gym at the moment?
Yeah, I just need to bulk up a bit. I have done that over the past year but I'm just doing exercises in the gym to get me a bit stronger. I need to be physically strong to play in this league so it's helping me.
Is there one part of your game you'd like to improve?
Definitely my shooting.
Do you use technology to help aid your game?
Not really in training but I've been getting DVDs of the games here. We don't analyse ourselves all the time in the Under-21s but we do watch the opponents.
Who scored the best goal you've ever seen in training?
It's a difficult one actually. I'm not sure but Josh Harrop has scored a few pearlers in training so I'd say him.
Talk us through the best goal you've ever scored in training...
I've scored a few over the years, although not on a regular basis. Maybe last year when I hit one curling into the top corner past Pierluigi Gollini. That's probably my favourite.

Warren Joyce happy with Ashley Fletcher's development Posted by Sam Peoples Date: May 06, 2015Manchester United’s U21s coach Warren Joyce is happy with the progress Ashley Fletcher has made this season.
The 19-year-old has made the step up from the U18s this season and scored for the U21s in their 1-0 win this week with what was an excellent first touch and finish after a long ball over the top from Phil Jones.
Just like James Wilson in the first-team, Fletcher has had to wait for his opportunities and speaking about the 19-year-old, Joyce praised his efforts off the pitch in helping him become a stronger player.
“Fletcher has had to bide his time,” Joyce told MUTV. “A little bit like Paddy [McNair] last year really. He has done a lot of work in the mornings and afternoons to try to develop himself, so you’re pleased he’s got his rewards.
“I’d have been pleased if he’d have got the header in early doors as it’s one area we are working particularly hard on to improve. I think he has developed it a little bit over the season but he has still got a lot more to come. There is also a lot more to come even in his body because he’s not fully developed yet.”
Fletcher faces a tough task breaking into United’s first-team given that Wilson is ahead of him in the pecking order but there will always be opportunities for him at one point in his career.
With United’s attack looking so fragile at the moment as well, Louis van Gaal will certainly be looking at all his options and if Fletcher can continue his progress through the lower ranks at United, there’s no reason why he can’t force himself into contention.thepeoplesperson.com/2015/05/06/joyce-happy-with-fletchers-development-93693/?

U18s: Middlesbrough 4 United 2 Manchester United's youngsters slipped to a 4-2 defeat in their final game of the Barclays Under-18 Premier League season against Middlesbrough.
Paul McGuinness had a number of regulars unavailable and was even forced to name two goalkeepers on the bench with Oliver Byrne classified as an outfield player.
Table-topping Boro started brightly and were awarded a penalty after just five minutes, with Joe Wheatley expertly converting from the spot. Despite the setback, the Reds responded well with Callum Gribbin twice going close and Ruairi Croskery denied only by a fine save.
A breakaway second for the hosts was harsh on United as Harry Chapman capped a sweeping move by firing past Dean Henderson five minutes before the half-time interval.
The next goal was always going to be crucial and Middlesbrough scored it when Chapman's whipped ball in from the left flank evaded everybody to find the bottom corner of the net. Alex Pattison added a fourth with a free header and McGuinness' much-changed side were facing a heavy defeat.
However, to their credit, United kept coming forward and were rewarded when Tyler Reid picked his spot from 20 yards following a good spell of possession. Gribbin had the final say, crowning an excellent individual display with a superb solo goal in stoppage time to end the campaign on a high.
Angel Gomes and Aidan Barlow got a taste of the action off the bench while Middlesbrough are in pole position to win the championship but Everton can still go above the Teessiders if they win their final fixture. United: Henderson; Reid, Williams, Dunne, Borthwick-Jackson; Scott (Gomes 71), Whelan; Rathbone, Gribbin, Makela (Barlow 88); Croskery. Subs not used: Dorrington, Byrne.www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/The-Academy/Academy-News/2015/May/Match-report-Middlesbrough-U18-v-Manchester-United-U18.aspx

11/05/2015 10:49, Report by Adam Marshall Old Trafford derby for Under-21s
The race for the Barclays Under-21 Premier League title is entering the final stretch with Manchester United facing another key encounter against neighbours Manchester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Warren Joyce's side will lose leadership of the division to Chelsea if the Blues pick up three points at fourth-placed Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Monday evening as the battle to lift the trophy looks certain to go down to the wire.
A narrow 1-0 win over Southampton last time out, courtesy of Ashley Fletcher's fine strike, extended the Reds' lead at the summit but Chelsea's 4-3 win over Liverpool, who remain two points adrift in second spot, has helped set up a nail-biting finale.
Remarkably, despite only having two fixtures left, United have yet to face City in the league this term with the away clash still to be arranged. James Wilson could return for Joyce's men after overcoming illness to be an unused substitute for the first team at Crystal Palace. The striker scored four times against the Blues in the Manchester Senior Cup final at the start of the season.
However, Andreas Pereira, who was also on the bench at Selhurst Park, is away on Under-20 international duty with Brazil and unavailable.
There appears no chance of Michael Carrick making an appearance after he was ruled out for the remainder of the season but Ben Pearson is back in the fold after his spell at Barnsley and other loanees, such as Jesse Lingard, Reece James and Will Keane, may also be under consideration.
The game kicks off at 19:00 BST and there is free entry for all fans. The derby is also live on MUTV, with build-up and commentary from 18:30 BST.

12/05/2015 09:35, Report by Alex Urquhart-Cannon U21s: Thorpe relishes chance to beat Man City Tom Thorpe insists Manchester United Under-21s are relishing the first of back-to-back clashes with Manchester City this evening and the opportunity to edge closer to the league title.
Old Trafford will stage the first league meeting between the sides this season with United's away fixture - also the last game of the campaign for Warren Joyce’s team - still to be arranged.
United’s grip on first place was strengthened last night after Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss at Sunderland and Liverpool were held to a 4-4 draw by Norwich City, meaning only four points from the pair of Manchester derbies are required for the crown. Such circumstances only serve to further motivate Thorpe, who is eagerly awaiting the game which is free for fans to attend.
“If there are two games you want to win, regardless of the title, it's the games against City,” the defender told ManUtd.com and MUTV. “Added to that, if we win the first one, then we'll be right up there for the title. They are two really big games and obviously we’re all focused on trying to win them.
"Quite a few of the lads in our team are local boys and have grown up through the ranks, playing against City all the time. We want to beat City – that’s the main aim. Knowing that there’s something else added on top of that [the chance to win the title] makes it even bigger."
While there was heartache for Thorpe and the Reds when losing 2-1 to the Blues last season and ultimately missing out on the title by a narrow margin, the centre-back is hoping his side can draw from August’s 4-1 derby win in the Manchester Senior Cup final when James Wilson scored all of United's goals.
“I think it will give us a bit of confidence going into the game,” Thorpe said of the season-opening victory.
“If somebody can pop up and score another four goals against City that would be great, but it could be a different team that we’re playing against or different players playing for us. It’s a big game and it'll be tough but we’re relishing it.
"Last year was a bit of a disappointment," the captain added. "We got all the way through to the play-offs and then lost. We want to bounce back this year and win the title."
Tonight's match will kick off at 19:00 BST. As well as free entry to Old Trafford for all fans, there will be live coverage on MUTV from 18:30 BST with former United manager Ron Atkinson as co-commentator.
