02/05/2015 11:57, Report by Adam Marshall 1 of 2 Next United Under-18s 1 Chelsea Under-18s 2 Manchester United's Under-18s suffered a late 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Altrincham's J. Davidson Stadium.
The Reds performed stoutly but, after leading through Marcus Rashford's spot-kick, were pegged back by Cameron Borthwick-Jackson's own goal. The visiting FA Youth Cup winners snatched victory in stoppage time when Miro Muheim's shot deflected off Borthwick-Jackson and looped over Dean Henderson.
It took only seven minutes for the Reds to go ahead when Rashford was bundled over by Josh Grant inside the area for a clear penalty. Rashford picked himself up to send Jared Thompson the wrong way from the spot.
Jordan Thompson was denied by his namesake Jared from close range and the keeper made another good first-half stop to keep out the Northern Irishman. Mukhtar Ali fired wide for the Blues but fit-again Henderson was rarely troubled in the first half.
At the other end, Timothy Fosu-Mensah lashed an ambitious effort off target and Ruiari Croskery saw a stinging drive well handled by Thompson. After the break, Isaac Christie-Davies' free-kick sailed just wide but Ro-Shaun Williams went equally as close with a glancing header as United continued to create chances.............................

Pereira's new contract is official. Three years with a year's extension option. GOOD. Now play him. Rothwell should be in the team ahead of him based on this seasons performances. Has properly earnt it. Although i wonder if the below is an indication of what he has been promised for next season? Play them all.

03/05/2015 09:45, Report by Adam Marshall United out to tighten grip on U21 table Manchester United's Under-21s face Southampton at Leigh Sports Village on Bank Holiday Monday, a key day in the race for the title.
Warren Joyce's men are top of the table, two points clear of Liverpool, but Chelsea and Manchester City both have two fixtures in hand. Chelsea are a particular threat because they will overtake the Reds if they win those games. Liverpool entertain Leicester City on Monday, while Manchester City tackle Tottenham.
United must focus on a run-in that includes two Manchester derbies after the clash with ninth-placed Saints, who won the corresponding fixture 1-0 with a late strike by Ryan Seager.
Robin van Persie scored twice at Fulham last time out but is unlikely to feature again after returning to Louis van Gaal's starting XI against West Brom. However, the Reds have tended to field strong line-ups at Reserves level of late. Joe Rothwell, who also netted a brace at Craven Cottage, looks certain to keep his place but there could be the option of involving several players who have returned from loan now the Football League season has ended.
The game kicks off at 19:00 BST and is live on MUTV, with build-up and commentary from 18:30 BST.

Surely we'll see Rooney play as it's the rule that anyone coming back from injury has to prove his fitness in the U21s ... and he can wear those spiffy stone Nikes too

04/05/2015 20:46, Report by Adam Marshall Under-21s: United 1 Southampton 0
Manchester United held on to Ashley Fletcher's 17th-minute strike against Southampton, set up by Phil Jones, to return to the top of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table.
Warren Joyce's side were overtaken by Liverpool earlier in the day and, with fellow title rivals Chelsea also winning, the pressure was on to take three points at Leigh Sports Village. The woodwork twice came to United's rescue in the second half and a tense spell of injury time was successfully seen out.
The Reds were quickly on the front foot with Andreas Pereira collecting a Donald Love pass in the third minute and producing a wonderful cross towards Fletcher. The striker's powerful header cannoned off the bar to spare the Saints an early hammer blow.
Liam Grimshaw, excellent in midfield, volleyed well over the top soon afterwards but the opening goal arrived on 17 minutes. Jones hit a sweeping pass from just inside the opposition half to pick out Fletcher and, after displaying instant control, he flashed a right-foot volley past Will Britt.
Visiting keeper Britt made a fine save to divert Jones' goalbound header from an Adnan Januzaj corner but, despite long spells of possession for Joyce's men, the Saints' stopper was not over-extended again until Januzaj fed Fletcher on the stroke of half-time to force a comfortable save.
Southampton improved significantly after the interval and Sam Gallagher had the ball in the net but the offside flag was raised. Love cleared following a scramble from a free-kick when Andy Kellett fouled Jake Hesketh and, when the same player was up-ended by James Weir, Dominic Gape's set-piece was gathered by Ben Amos.
Marcus Barnes fired wide on the turn as Martin Hunter's side really started to get on top and the woodwork saved United twice in a matter of minutes. Hesketh sprinted past substitute Sadiq El Fitouri down the left to cross for Gallagher, who clipped the bar. Little over a minute later, El Fitouri gifted the ball to Hesketh and, although Tom Thorpe, playing at centre-back after Jones was withdrawn, blocked, the midfielder smashed the loose ball past Amos, only to see it clip the bar again.
The sight of top scorer Ryan Seager coming off the bench, the man who bagged the winner in the corresponding fixture, only added to the anxiety but Thorpe defended magnificently as the Reds attempted to hold out. There was a delay when Britt landed awkwardly after mishandling a Januzaj corner and was taken off on a stretcher, with Cody Cropper coming on in his place.
Consequently, five minutes of injury time was signalled and the visitors came extremely close again to grabbing an equaliser when Sam McQueen forced a dramatic fingertip save out of Amos in the dying seconds. United still harbour hopes of winning the league with two Manchester derbies to come while Southampton remain in threat of relegation.
United: Amos; Love (El Fitouri 68), Jones (Willock 62), Blackett, Kellett; Thorpe, Grimshaw; Weir, A.Pereira, Januzaj; Fletcher. Subs not used: J.Pereira, Williams, Pearson.
