Feel sad for Fletch but Carrick will be on the field a hell of a lot more and he deserves it as much as Fletch IMO Captain Flump - master of the midfield

Glad that bit has come out in the press, and they've not tried to make it into something it's not. Feel sorry for Fletch, but he shouldn't be anywhere near the pitch for me.

yep - a good move from LVG. Now he's had a chance to see the effect Carrick has on the team. He's putting those bricks back into place after the wrecking ball that was last season.

Feel sorry for Fletch as he has Manchester United blood running through his body, not playing through illness but loyal to the core after fighting his illness and still at United. It is a good move by LVG. We can all be critical of Carrick over the years and I am one of them but he has battled back from all the critics and is now playing a major part in LVG plans. Fletch will still be there, mainly a bench warmer I feel and get in the odd game here and there but he is getting older now and that illness did knock him for six and he is not the same as he was before the illness. As a Scotsman like him and live just a few miles from his parents home I will say "Still loves ya Fletchy as a player for United and Scotland".

Fletch is nowhere near the player he was (I think 99% of us will agree on that) and it's doubtful he can get back to that level - first off he's need starts and a long run in the team - would he really get that now considering even the likes of The Oaf are at a higher level? What is best all round is he semi-retires and becomes a player/coach for the U21s - pass on his experience to the fringe players and that way the club shows loyalty to him (I know they have shown a lot already by not terminating his contract during his illness) and make use of that experience - the guy is 100% United and the odd cameo in injury time is not what he, or we, want -it's almost an insult to the years he gave the club - he'd also be match fit and available in an injury crisis if needed I'm sure the "hard core" (LOL) muppets on the official forum will hate Carrick even more now that he's taken Fletch's mini armband - but they would still hate him if he scored the winner in a CL final Luckily those of us here recognise Carrick's class and what he does (sometimes anonymously) for us in the pitch Still working on my time machine to go back and get us a 23 year old Carrick, Vida and Rio ... and a Keano with a brain

If Carrick was fit at start of season he should have been a shoe in for full captaincy. I'm glad LVG sees him in that way now though, as he deserves it and gives us a sense of calm defensively. Working alongside Evans and Jones it could suddenly be a decent defence

Suggested him as captain at start of the season after some thinking and found it hard for someone to disagree with me after suggesting him.
Only thing is he doesn't seem angry enough in a constructive way but would rather Carrick s foootball mind ahead of Rooneys pathetic screaming at nobody listening to him

It's sad that because of his illness his playing capability went down. If he leaves (which he might at the end of this season) he doesn't owe anyone anything. He was amazing player and its same which has happened to previous players. Whatever he does, he will be successful there.

Completely, thats why I said wherever he goes. He will be successful. Maybe work for United for a couple of years, take some courses on like management become Assistant manager to a club. He might leave football or maybe he will. Though, United will always be his home and he is welcome here forever. I think making carrick captain is a wise choice, Fergie called him the best.

Fergie's said Carrick is the best English player around right now.

Fergie's said Carrick is the best English player around right now. Has been for a while IMO. Huge Carrick fan, vastly underrated elsewhere.
