Rio looks like he could throw his boots on and play again. Keeping himself fit. Good man.

Aye, there are some great coaches in the Premier, perhaps their having to shake the lumps ouf of the pant's legs could be related to the number of times Jose's teams have kicked their collective asses? his win percentage against Renieri is 33%. His win record against Klopp is 20%. His win record against Pep is 18%. Percentages mean scant little. Over how many games have those percentages been calculated? The sample size is way too small.

Now there's a man who gets United and actually had the stones to captain this club. I'd take him as an assistant over Giggs (the man in charge of our abysmal set pieces) in a heartbeat. Which shows how much this forum has got to you. Rio is as thick as a plank. What? Nearly every footballer who has played with him has always talked up his football intelligence. You're labeling him a plank based on..?

Not saying he won't improve upon them.

The jealousy and begrudgery is still out in force. Wait until the club announce it...we're 'doomed'.

I think of it this way - if Jose tanks this job, where will he go?
Bayern? PSG? That's about all and neither have the allure of a club and league like United.
Part of me feels he's wanted this job for absolute ages and he may well take to it like a duck to water. Unlike Van Gaal and Moyes he's acutely aware of the perception he creates regarding the football and the ethos it exudes so I don't expect him to persist with shite when the Stretty is baying for attacking football.
Reckon we may see the most attacking football we've seen in 5+ years at United, I'm including Sir Alex's swansong period as much of that was managerial genius and madness from Van Persie with a substandard squad.
The way I see it the club have finally gotten into a position where they are prepared to start spending in line with thr size of the club, now we've a manager who knows how to harness not just that spending power (see Moyes - lost out on a bunch of class players, Fellaini over the odds and Mata panic buy), but how to implement that type of player and ego (see Van Gaal - Depay, Di Maria). Not to mention, we now have a manager that has actually won a league title in England - that's massive for the players.
I'm thoroughly excited. I'll admit I've always had reservations about Mourinho but it feels right, we'll be stirring from our three year slumber pretty soon and I'm optimistic about a title challenge next year. Especially excited to see life on the touchline.
Imagine he doesn't implode and he stays and builds a legacy for 8+ years? Sky's the limit really, the club have shown they'll stick by the manager as long as we play Champions League football.

Next year I will have been a United fan for half a century. Through the years I've seen some shitty times, but my love and enthusiasm for my team never wavered. Over the last three seasons however I have found myself becoming steadily disengaged, a trend that started when I decided I couldn't be bothered getting up at sparrows to watch games live and culminating in me not watching at all. My family can't believe it, but they don't understand how saddening it was to watch the boring, uninventive trash being served up week in, week out, under the last 2 coaches. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we deserve to win anything, but we should at least be playing a style of football that means we give it our best shot.
I have my reservations about the appointment of JM, but at least I feel excited about the potential of seeing us strut our stuff once again. I just hope he comes up with the goods or it might be time for me to buy a pipe and take up watching lawn bowls

I have 2 points in response to this: 1) I think after us its Portugal and done for Jose. Maaaaaybe PSG. 2) I don't think we can say for sure we are willing to spend big just yet. Last summer was a total smokescreen - a lot of talk but including both wages and transfer fee we were comfortably in the black for that window. I want hard evidence (more than just Ibra on a free - I'm talking a net spend of £60m+ in fees alone) before I'm convinced we are willing to spend big time.
