Republikans of Mancunia in '23!
What do youse think of this thread in today's dayn'age?
In your opinions: Do the rest of England still hate United? Have V.A.R. decisions, and other referring stats, reinforced your beliefs that Manchester is unfairly treated in football? Have the English press changed since 2007 in their attitude towards Manchester United? Are Manchester United-based individuals belittled by the majority still? Is there an anti-Mancunian mindset outside of Manchester?
Personally, outside of college, I've never had anyone criticise or insult Manchester to my face. I've been around the whole of the UK a fair bit and all the places I've been have more of a soft infatuation with Manchester, like meeting a Manc(Salford) boy was more a novelty and they haven't really cared much about Man United outside of they want their teams to win instead. A Geordie actor I've made friends with actually said,
"Manchester United is actually the most fun club to have a rivalry with," he supports Newcastle so we've obviously had a good go at each other this season.
My mates, however have had more negative interactions in their unis down South, in regards to both football rivalries(Arsenal fans, this season of course) but also in general North/South divide arguments, Southerners talking about 'scruffy Northerners'.
In terms of footy and the English press, I find it quite easy for me to slip into that 'everyone is out to get us!' mindset with the lack of penalties we've had, V.A.R. or disallowed goals, and the pundits on Martinez and Casemiro this season have been throwing out some daft shouts... What do youse think?
Cheers,
Mainy
