So, after a long drawn out day the results are here. Wayne Rooney will go to the World Cup in Germany and participate after the group stages.
Rooney's D-Day started at 9am Germany time, when he got on a plane to Manchester Airport. With an appointment at the BUPA Whalley Range Private Hospital, costing Manchester United £300 (50% of what Wayne earns an hour!), Wayne arrived with high hopes stating that he was ''300% certain'' of a positive result.
12am Wayne arrived and swiftly left after 30mins inside the private hospital with crowds and media gathered outside, security from Manchester United, the FA and Paul Stretford's (Waz's agent) own security guarding the gates when Rooney come and go.
Rooney was seen to go to his fiancée Colleen McCloughlin's family residence in Merseyside for a few hours, to think about what was happening next and will he be staying in Merseyside/Manchester or joining up with the England squad again?...
At about 5.30pm Rooney arrived back at the hospital for lengthy talks about his scan and whether he would be playing in Germany. Both doctors from Manchester United, the FA, FIFA aswell as Fergie and Eriksson on the phone, there was a lengthy discussion of 2 hours.
Meanwhile, people outside the centre were speculating the results were negative and that Rooney's dream was over. During this time a fire alarm went off in the hospital and everyone was emptied into the carpark all except Mr. Rooney..(was he there or not?)..or did he just get bored?...
As the deadline came, Wayne and the FA representatives exited the hospital with big grins on their faces and got into a people carrier, unknown at the time but they were off to Germany!
As pictures of Wayne departing for Germany filtered through we were still in limbo. No statement from United, England or anybody else for that matter.
Speculation and the fact Wayne left for Germany suggested Wayne would play and too right they were as midnight struck a statement was released by United and this is it:
OFFICIAL UNITED STATEMENT:
Manchester United can confirm that Wayne Rooney has rejoined the England squad in Germany following his scan in Manchester.
He is now in the care of the England medical team. The expert independent medical view is that Wayne has a good chance of being fit after the group stage.
At that point, the expert independent medical view is that his participation in the tournament will require very careful assessment in order to address his suitability, as he will not have had the opportunity to play in less demanding games.
Communications Department, Manchester United, 7 June
So following a long day, the hopes of a nation have been lifted. Wayne Rooney, still only 20 remember, will hopefully play his first World Cup match in the second round of the World Cup finals.
England have no excuses now, with a full squad of whom are all fit and healthy we should do well. Beckham, Wayne & Co. will all be chomping at the bit, hopefully with no injuries or suspensions the boys will arrive at Luton Airport on July 10th with the World Cup trophy in hands.
The Nation Expects...
C'MON ENGLAND!
