BBC have confirmed reports today that the Togo side will have a meeting tomorrow before their crunch game versus Switzerland. The meeting is to decide whether they will participate any further in the World Cup, the Togo side are upset with the financial situation at this Summer's tournament and want more money for themselves to participate.
What a joke!...firstly, what sort of preparation for the greatest tournament ever is that?...
and secondly, this is their country. Play for free..I'd represent United or my country for free any day of the week without any thought. Yet, these guys want money..
Thirdly, this will probably be the only time these guys ever get a chance to play in the World Cup. Why would you put that on the line?

It wasn't too long ago that we saw this same scenario with Nigeria and they played but didn't have any heart on the pitch. I too would play for free if I were in the WC since if you play well a club may want to sign you, instead their team is going to look like money hungry jerks who will sacrifice the game just because they're in a pay dispute.

Isn't togo one of the poorest countries in the world? They have an average life expectancy of about 57. If they want the money to spend like most footballers do then shame on them, but if they want it to feed their families etc then is it really so bad...?

the fact is their most likely getting paid than most people in their country are already?? so in my oppinion i think its disgracefull that they refuse to play for their country unless they get more money.

Apparently they did not ask for more money.
They were asking for the money the were supposed to be paid for playing for their national side.
Apparently Togo's Football Association got £3m for qualifying, and the players were given guarantees that their wage would be in their bank accounts by the time the World Cup began, has yet, that money has not been given to them.
So that's why they considered not playing.
