England fans would rather play Germany next
Sol Campbell believes that a large section of the England support would have preferred to meet Germany in the next round of the World Cup finals.
Although Jurgen Klinsmann's side have shrugged off major pre-tournament doubts about their capabilities with three consecutive wins in the group stages, scoring eight goals in the process, the Arsenal defender feels it would have been a great occasion on Saturday if it was England, and not Sweden, facing the host nation.
Campbell came on as a substitute for Rio Ferdinand in the 2-2 draw with Sweden and was unable to clear when Henrik Larsson bundled home a late equaliser for the Scandinavians.
"I think a lot of English fans probably would have loved us to play Germany," he told Sky Sports News.
"They're the home side and have got a lot of support obviously, so I think it's better to maybe meet Germany along the way, further along."
Germany meet Sweden in the last 16 before England face Ecuador on Sunday afternoon, with many pundits suggesting the South Americans should offer a slightly smoother passage to the quarter finals, despite their own form in disposing of Poland and Costa Rica.
