From PAT SHEEHAN
DAVID BECKHAM and Steven Gerrard had a training ground bust-up before the Sweden draw.
Gerrard got annoyed as he felt England’s captain was hitting too many long balls during games.
Becks had a pop back and the pair had a frank exchange over tactics in front of the other squad members.
But England’s coaching staff are not overly concerned, viewing the clash as a healthy, spirited discussion between two of the country’s most senior players.
Their flare-up was quickly settled but demonstrated the underlying will to get tactics spot-on as Sven Goran Eriksson’s men continue to chase World Cup glory.
Liverpool star Gerrard’s anger was sparked by him wanting the ball played more through midfield.
And that is what happened as England came within a couple of minutes of beating their Group B rivals on Tuesday.
Crocked striker Michael Owen had already been to see boss Eriksson after being subbed in earlier games.
He felt he needed to play a complete match as he chased full fitness.
BECKHAM ... long balls
But with Owen’s cruciate ligament injury to his right knee ruling him out for up to a year, the onus now rests with Peter Crouch and Wayne Rooney.

Eventually. Someone has had a go at him. David Beckham was making us play like Wimbledon - not a team virtually full of Premiership elite.
How many times have we seen Argentina, Brazil, Holland, even Togo play a long ball? How many timess have we played a long ball? We must haveplayed more long balls than any other team put together.
I hope Beckham listens to Gerrard, but now Peter Crouch is going to be a regular in the team, I'm bracing myself for more unnecarassaries.
Don't get me wrong, we have a lot to thank Beckham for, for what he gave to United. Without him, United wouldn't have won so many Premierships, or maybe even the Champions League. He's a legend. And he deserves to be.
But, he is not a captain. If I was playing for England, I couldn't get inspired by him. Having John Terry or Gary Neville or Gerrard as my captain, well, that would be different. I'm afraid to say, David Beckham is too posh.
Give me a Roy Keane, a Robbo, a Tony Adams, a Psycho Pearce anyday. Beckham? Naaa.
Let's be honest, this 'free role' he must have is really a bad idea. At the end of the day, what is he only good for? Crossing and a Free Kick. Take them away and just look at his other attributes and he's a very average player.
Fergie knew best. Keep him on the wing. Make him stay on the wing. If he moves out of position, kick him up the jacksy.

How the fuck is it Beckham's fault if they play long balls?... Maybe if the manager stopped playing Crouch and encouraged Lampard and Gerrard to form atleast a decent partnership where they weren't holding hands then Beckham'd be able to do something.
Beckham has been the scapegoat of the media, fans and anyone else for too long. Look at Lampard!...what the fuck has he done in Germany?...FUCK ALL!...Yet no one will say anything about that because he's the Golden Boy of Chelsea and Beckham's the ex-United Madrid player!

There all at fault, Gerrard, Lampard and Becks dont make space or give the back 4 a short option Becks needs to stick on the wing and the other 2 need to stop holding hands with Rio and Terry, and start giving them some options otherwise we will just see Rio and the likes hoofing the ball up to Crouch.

Too fuckin right, totally agree, gotta give you a score thingy there! I think Lampards been abysmal, hes wasted chances and hasnt made anything of anything, i dont know how he wrrants a place and of course whenever anything ahppens with England Beckham is blamed, ever since 98, hes the one everyone turns to to blame but without him we wouldnt have qualified for WC 2002, hes still a great player but when the team plays badly, Beckham is of course to blame, give me a break.
People need to be looking at Lampard and even Terry whos looked poor at the back this world cup, both are over rated and only have the hype they do because the millions of pounds worht of players at chelsea make them look good.
